ready in the Spring. Tbe grading Is nearly completed,
and ties distributed for 120 miles In advanoe of tbe
western end of tbe track. Fully 120 miles of Iron lor
new track are now delivered west of the Missouri
River, and so milts mere are en route. The total ex
penditures for construction purposes In advance of
tbe completed portion of the roj.d Is not less tnan
eight million dollars

Government Aid Security or the Bonds.
By Its charter, the Company la permitted to Issue
Us own FIRST MORTGAGE BONDS to tbe same
amount aa tbe Government Bonds, and no more.
These Bonds are a First Mortgage upon tbe whole
road and all Its equipments. Buch a mortgage upon
wust, for a locg time, will be tbe only railroad con
cectlrg tbe Atlantic and PaclUo Btates, takes the
highest rank as a safe security, Tbe earnings from
tbe way or local business for the year ending Jnne to,
18C8, on sn average of 471 miles, were over FOUR
MILLION LOLLARU. which, after paying nil ex
penses, were much more than, sutHelent to cover all
Interest liability upon tbat dlstanoe.and the cart
ings lor tbe last five months have been t2 888.870.
They would have been greater If the road bad not
been taxed to its utmost capacity to transport its own
material for construction. Tha Income from the
great passenger travel, tbe China freights, and tbe
supplies for tbe new Rocky Mouutain States and Ter
ritories, must be a:nplel!or all Interest and otber lia
bilities. No political aotlon oan reduce tbe rate of
Interest. It must remain for thirty years t per
etn(. per annum in gold, now equal to between eight
and nine per cent, in currency. The principal it then
payable in gold. If a bond with such guarantees were
Issued by tbe Government, its market price would
not be lass tban from 20 to 25 per cent, premium, AS
theee bonds ars Issued under Government authority
and supervision, upon what la very largely a Gov
ernment work, they must ultimately approach.Gov
trnment prices. No other corporate bonds are made
so secure.
