drama of Under the Gaslight, but he was unsuc.

Mr. Lester Wallack Is making preparations
to bring out Shakespeare's comedy of Much Ado
About Nothing at his theatre In New York in
grand style, as soon as the public get tired of
the Lancashire Lass, which is still attracting
crowded houses.
Under the Gaslight Is now being performed
at the New York Theatre, and it will keep the
stage until December, when the Worrell Sisters
will reappear and take charge of the establish
ment.
A Chinese extravaganza entitled Ching.
Chow hi was produced on Monday at the Theatre
Comlque, New York, with Mlis Susan Gal ton

The New Totk critics think that Mrs. Ln.
der's "Mario Antoinette" is a fine performance,
but not equal to her "Elizabeth. "
Mr. G. L. Fox's pantomime of Humpty
Dumpiy will reach its two hundred and eighty
second representation on Saturday evening.
Mrs. D. i Bowers commenced an engage
ment at the Park Theatre, Bioiklvn, on Monday,
and appeared as "Queen Elizabeth."

Genevieve de Brabant, ai interpreted by
Grau's troupe, has won its way to public favor at
the French Theatre.New Yoik. The performance
has been pruned of the objectionable features
which were complained of aud It now progresse8
satisfactorily. The New York critics think that
the music of this opera is the best that Oifeu
bach has yet written.
Max Maretzek commenced a season of
Italian Opeia at the Academy of Music, New
York, on Monday evening. The opening opera
was It Trovatore, in which Madame Agatha
Etatca appeared as "Leonora," Madame Cellini
as "Azucena," Brlgnoll as "Manrico," and
Orlandini as the "Count di Luna."
On Tuesday the German members of Ma
retzek's combined troupe appeared In Beetho
ven's Fide'io, and for this evening Robert ie
Diable is announced, with Madame La Grango
In the leading role.
The portion of Bateman's French troupe
which appeared in this city last week opened
at Pike's Opera House, New York, ou Monday,
In Barl e Bleue, with Iraia as ' Boulolte," and
Aujac as "Barbe Blue."
