II HE DAILY EVENING TELEGRAPH PHILADELPHIA, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1868.
NEW YORKISMS.
Trotn Our Own Correspondent.
New York, Vov. 13. 186'.
THH FILIBUSTERS
have made up their niii.ds to annex Cuba to tho
United State. The office ot tbe United States
Marshal Is bristling with horror and tho baa.
tions of Fort Lafayette with fruns. The Spanish
Consul has nothing to aay in the matter. IIU
doors are open but Ills mouth la shut, so that
reporters eet vert little sftUslaction.
Marshal Murray resembles him in both these
particulars. The position of a reporter or of
any newspaper man seekin news is no sinecure
Just now. No people can hoar beint; bluffed off
so blandly as the frentlemen of the Press "God
bless 'em, ivcry one."
In consequence of Ihe excitement tho price of
Spanish ti es has rlen, aud no such thing as a
mild Havana Is to be ha 1.
Id constqaence of the poillous nature of the
Interviews which they are oblige! to seek, in the
Interests of their respective newspapers, special
prayers are put up in St. Albau's Uhapel for the
reporters of sensation newspapers, commencing
with the World. i
Three thousand men ore to leave for Cuba in
fifteen days, or, if1 that is Impossible, fifteen
thousand men are to leave in three days.
So great has been tbe run upon Colonel
Gibbons and General de FalUkoff that the
respective landladies ot these jrentlemeri ralsel
their terms immediately, and sent in their bills
at twentj-ttree minutes after five this morning.
It is thought that they will repudiate.
SUa AN THB 8EN8IBLK
took tbe chair ou Wednesday evening, at No.
C8 East Broadway, Botanic Hall.
The business of the hour was the permanent
organization of the Workingwomen's Associa
tion. The names of 250 city working women were
enrolled.
Any workiogwoman mar become a member
by signing the articles of the constitution, and
contributing one ten-cent postage currency per
month.
Tbe objects are the establishment of a sister
hood of working women, the institution of stated
meetings for social intercourse, the discussion
of humanitarian and progressive ideas, the
adoption of a co operating and ameliorating
plan, the forming of a fund for tbe benefit
of members in sickness or misfortune, etc.
A nice Utile word war was threatened between
the workiDgwomen and a number of Soro sister s
who were present.
Miss Anthony, the head and front of the
Working women's Association , is the Great North
Ameiican Female BuflagWt. Nobody can beat
her In that line.
Now the 3oros!sters ore anything but Suffra
gists. What they go in for is tea and toast a
Delmonico's, and if there is any "quail" on the
toast, way tbe resemblance to a pig's foot, with
a chicken-wing served on to it, is so much the
more approved.
Quite a number of withering glances there
fore ensued between the Sullraglsts and the
Bore-sisters.
No one was Etruck with palsy, however, and
the result of the vole was that Susan was
elevated to the office of Presideutess, and some
enthusiastic admirer made a motion, which was
not seconded, that $25 should be given her as a
recognition of her services.
In fact, the Working women's Association is
Progresbtve and the borosis is Digressive. The
one may sometimes awaken a rusplcion of Blue
Stocking; the other awaken a suspicion of open
worked silk clockings.

sick-beds to-day, who might have been well and
bearty had they taken due p.-ccautlons for the pre
servation of that most precious of earthly blessings,
a sound mind in a sound both. BIckneM, to a greater
extent than most people suppose, it avoidable. When
the body Is laoruld, the spirits depressed, and the
Dervous system unnaturally sensitive, It should ba
taken tor granted that mltchicf it brewing. These
bints ar.d warnings, vouchsafed as such by a kind
Providence, ought not to be disregarded. If they are
slighted, as Is too generally the case, the next thing
may be a fever, a severs bullous attack, or eotni
other form or acute disease. They Indicate as clearly
a If the lotlmat on were given In articulate language,
that the animal fnnotlons are disordered and tbe
system debilitated. Vuder these circumstances, the
only thing to be done it to rrgulate and rettore, and
tbe best regulating and restorative preparation ever

Stomach Bittkrs. In this way, bilious remittent
fever, cbllls and fever, spasms, nervous paroxysms,
violent attacks ot Indigestion, and all the ordinary
epidemics, may almost certainly be averted. They
are usually preceded by tbe symptoms described, and
surely It Is wisdom to forestall them by resorting to
an antidote at once harmless, agreeable, and In
vigorating. Most assuredly, It will soon dissipate the
unpleasant fjollns referred to, wh ch, of course, Is
desirable, even If they were not likely to lead to
something worse. The close of the Fall Is usually
accoropaU'-d by unhealthy fogs and violent atmo
spheric changes,. ai d It Is therefore a season when In-
vifcOrntlon is particularly needed.

OBITUARY.
DE LACY. It Is witb sentiments of deep regret and
sorrow that we announce the death of our dear and
mnch esteemed friend, Dr. JOHN DE LACY, who
dt parted this life on the 7th Instant In tbe 45th year
of bis age. His success as a physician for twenty
years, hs klndne;s and devotion to the p)or, were
manifested by the crowds that looked upon his placid
'see tor the lat time. We are, therefore, sorrowful
at tbe departure of one so use ul, so full ot promise
Deeply do we sympathize with his aflllcted family at
this, their Irreparable Ions. He wai Indeed endowed
with all that could excite the deepest emotion, at wei
as commendable pride In a wifb' heart, so fund and
affectionate In his nature, gifted with brlllUnt Intol
Itci and one of tbe most retiring and amiable dlspo
slilnns lmagluible. A devoted hnsbaud aud an atluc
ilnnaie father, he was the Idol ot bis bon.enold, aad
the blow which Providence, in His Inscrullble wis
dom, has deemed proper to Infllot, will be keenly felt
by bis widow and children and other dear friends,
who will now await tats welcome coming and chuerfal
smile In vain. They have In their alUicllou the
prayers of relatives and friends, all of whom know
well how much the loss of one so dear aud niticn be
loved has caused them. But men ory fond memory
will ever cling around the many pleasing associations
connected with him, wbtle yielding to the divine
mandate of Him ''who doetb all things well." L.
