For this precious in nun trace oi i, on, let us render lo linn al! the riiise and platitude of which our poor hearts are ca pable. We humbly thaniifully take it for an earnest that .(.Jed will continue to be ''racious to this hninch of His Church, and designs her, smill ns Bin? is, to exert a uiesscii luiiuence in moiuini; tlio character and shapini; iho destiny of this new world in which our lot is cart. lie will control and overrule tho acitations and abemtions uf the day to a greater good. They are but the sius and necessities of a more exuberant life, As that life expresses llelf in one direction, all of us will agree to maintain all that truly tends to produce those two things which (od has so emphatically con secrated in his public worship yloiy and beauty while we reject all that is tawdry, mean and trillins, and as lar as, on cither band, this teeming life has degenerated into false doctrine and disloyalty, lieu of mere subjective faith will go to their own place from this Church following Newman and Manning on one hsr.d. or Colensn and Banti.t Noel on tha other, liven so this will but purify and stregthen me i nurcn. ins most important and continuing subject for giatulation in this ( hutch is tho fidelity with which wc have adhered to the diviuelv-Lriven pattern of a Christian Cinncil by making the laity au v.-semini poruou in sucu council. Our more extended experience in the practical work ing of this divine pattern enables ns tosay confidently to our brethren of the Church of England, and of the provinces of England, who arc trying to bring their synodical organization to a higher standard, that the lay element in tins Doily lias at all times been at once progressive and eminently conservative that it is an effectual preservative against class legislation, and, iu hit vjjkiiii.ij, iwuti ii'uico initrijr iu uie Ulgllliy, courtesy, and high character of this Convention. The Church, I trust, rising to a higher estimation of her powers anu capabilities, will have each of her minis ters not merely a workman, but the leader and puido of a body of working people, which is tho only way mm whs i nurcn can iuiini ner great mission in evan gelizing this country. The laity, nuder the control of and with the assistance of their respective ministers, by lay reading must occupy every accessible position wherever the church may be planted. The President then thanked the Convention for the honor it had conferred on him, and the kindness aud attention manifested toward him, and concluded by bidding them au affectionate farewell. A number of messages from the House of Bisboos Were then rod, couvm lug iu certain measures ndopted by the House of Deputies. The Kev. The Convention reassembled at threo o'clock, but there being no further business except the concur rence of the House of Clerical and Lay Deputies iu a number of unimportant messages sent by tho House of Bishops, the Convention adjourned until half-past seven iu the evening, wheu the closing religious cere monies took place at Calvary Chnrch, Twenty-first street, which were presided over by the Presiding Bishop, B.
