New York, Oct. 10 The Tammany General
Committee held a meeting to-night and ordered the
(primary meetings in view of the reported with
drawal of Seymour and Blair. An address was
unanimously adopted eulogizing those candidates of
the Democracy, expressing belief in tho success of
tlio cause, saying that the pending contest is pre
eminently one of capital against labor, of money
against popular rights, and or political power
against the struggling Interests of the masses, and
calling for the relaxation of no el Volts to secure a
inajoritv for tho electoral ticket.
Nitw Yoiik, Oct. 10. The United States Indian
Commission appointed at a public meeting of citi
zens last May wero in session this morning, at the
Cooper Institute, to listen to a report from Bishop
Whipple, of Minnesota, on the present condition of
the Indians of the United States territories. Vin
cent Colyer reported that during the summer vaca
tion a memorial had been presented to Congress on
behalf of the Indians, and an address to the people
Issued by the Commission. Bishop Whipple's ad
dress contained a startling array of facts as to tho
ill-treatment and long-continued Injustice of our
people towards the Indians. Drs. Bellows, Osgood

Vrom Indianola September 30, with cattle for New
Africans, foundered in a gale which commenced the

has been ordered to duty In tho Department of the
Missouri.
During the past week 313 applications for patents

lUlEKin, Oct. 10 Both political parties are
working vigorously in tho canvas. Tho Republi
cans are jubilant over tho northern elections and
the Democrats disappointed, but confident of car
rying this State. Both have full electoral and Con
gressional tickets. The Republican electoral ticket
has Byron Latlin, of New York, and A. S. Gallo
way, colored, on it. The rest are native whites.
The Democratic electoral tickets are all native and
all enfranchised. The Congressional Republican
ticket has all natives on it except David Heaton, of
Wisconsin, J. T. Dervise, of Indiana, and Mr. Boy
den, who runs on the Republican ticket indepen
dent, oppose radicalism, yet votes for Grant. Mr.
French, of Washington city, and Mr. Fourgo, of
Ohio, having been ruled off, tho Democratic ticket
is composed of all natives.
Governor Holdcn has suspended the order or-
anizing and detailing militia. General Miles has
istributed the 40th U. S. regiment (colored) troops
as follows: Two companies at Raleigh, two at
Goldsboro', one at Weldon, one at Plymouth, one
at Fayettevillc, one at Salisbury, one at Charlotte
and one at Greensboro'. One company of white
troops of heavy artillery armed as infantry, from
Fortress Monroe, arrived hero on Saturday.
Governor Holdcn professes a desire to preserve
order and protect tho Stato government, and the
Democrats disclaim all purpose to interfere with
the suffrage of the blacks.
Alexander Wills, a member of thc40th U. S. regi
ment, who was tried and convicted here six months
ago for the murder of citizens, was sentenced by
.ludge Watts to be hung on the (ith of November,
tho execution to take place in prison.
General Littletield, of Pennsylvania, has re
turned here. He is reported to be the real owner of
the Standard, Governor Holden's organ here.

tion to vacate thewrits in the cases agninst General
Butler, in tho Supremo Court of Baltimore city,
was concluded to-day by Mr. Schley for tho motion,
which had been previously answered at length bv

Merrick, of Washington, William Meade Addison
and R. J. Brent, of Baltimore, for tho plaintiff.
On each side the argument was exhaustive, and
several days will elapse before the Court can re
view the authorities cited and give its decision.
Tho convention of delegates representing emi
gration societies in the United States was perma
nently organized to-day. Delegates were present
from New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Missouri,
Wisconsin, Tennessee, Nebraska, District of Co
lumbia and Maryland. Col. Rutishauzcl, of Chi
cago, was chosen President; F. Funk, of Philadel
phia, Vice President, and Col. Ludwig, of Missouri,
and E. S. Schmidt, of Washington, Secretaries.
Various propositions wero discussed In tho morning
and evening sessions. Tho main proceeding was
the appointment of a committee to arrange for a
union of the ImiuigHtion societies of the United
States and u central board. The proceedings are
in German.

Railroad Accident.
Richmond, Va., Oct. 19. On the North Carolina
Railroad, on Saturday night, near Harrisbiirg, two
trains, one having McGinley's circus on board, col
lided, and live passengers were seriously wounded.

clalr. The monthly committee, of which John
O. James, Erq.. was chairman, reported that

of the State of Delaware, for aid, and report
adversely to said application, ai they have no

necessary, but at a point nearer the city than

day evening Francis Roche, a resident of Qer
nnntown, met Thomas Gallacher on Price
stri ct, and peiting Into an altercation with him,
made an B'eault with a pocket-knife, inflicting
several se vere wounds, a cut acro-s the lace,
extendinf; upwards Irom the mouth, belnpr the
worst. I'pon leaving Gallasber Kochc went
into Centre street, where he encountered an
flcqunintance named Charles Smith, and engaged
in a quarr5i with him, inflicting wounds with a
knife that are likely to Drove fatal. One ol the
cuts is In the ncrk and the other in the head,
the laiter, It is said, rxtending to the brain. Dr.
uuncan was summoned to attend upon Smith,
ar.d proriouDcedhiru to be in a critical condition.
Roche was arrested, taken before Alderman
Thomas, nod committed to await the result ot
Smith's Injuries
Pbojectfd Improvements. Among the'per
mits Issued recently out of the Building Inspec
tors' office is one for the erection of a church at
Hancock and Diamond streets, to be 77 by 148
feet, and 41 feet high, intended for a Roman
Catholic congregation; a dwelling at Broad
street and Sasquehnnna avenue, to be 31 feet
front and 75 feet deep, three stories in height;
seven first class dwellings, with brown stoue
fronts, 19 by 68 feet, to be erected on Nineteenth
street, above Cherry.
Tires. The alarm of fire last evening,
about nine o'clock, was caused by the burning
of Conquest & Lober's grocery and commission
house, Ko. 524 S. Delaware avenue. The stock
was badly damaged by fire and water.
The alarm of fire last evening, about half-past
7 o'clock, was caused by the slight buruiug of
the House of Refuge. The fiie originated in.ibo
workshop, and.is suppotsed to have been acci
dental. "
Casdalties. John Hock, who shot his wife
a day or two since, and then shot himself in the
head, died yesterday morning at the Pennsyl
vania Hospital from the effects of the injuries.
John Ilavilund, who was run over on the
Reading Railroad, and had his leg broken, died
yesterday morning at the same institution.
