ftn Hccouot of a ditliculty which occurred on
Holiday, August 9, between tho soMicrs at Fort
Zara, in Arkanas, and a party of Kiowa In
Uians. The diUiculty was originated by two
young KiowHS, who were intoxicated, riding
through a white man's camp in a disorderly
manner, when tbey were fired on, and one of
them Beriously wounded. The Indians reported
to their baud having been tired on, and the
KiowRfl went to the fort in battle army, but the
difllculty wa9 then prevented by tlic uUcricrcnce
of a friendly chief.
On the alternoon of the same day awaken
master arrived at tliR fort, reporting his train
had been robbed by Klowas, and a detachment
or troops was eent out to the Kiowa Ciimp.
Upon their arrival the Indian women and chil
dren jumped into the river to swim to tha oppo
pile bank, fttnl numbers of pnpooses were

Fort Wallace to the Uepuhiican says lUt) Chey

Two scouts sent her? by the Oovernorof Colo
rado have arrived, aud report that the Indians
are abont all the settlements southeast of Den
ver, and that the settlors are suilering greatly.
Vive hundred head of stock have been run oil
within the pa?t week, and twenty settlers killed
and scalped. The Denver coach, which arrived
this afternoon, was detained by Indian?, and
c.riven buck to ldg Timber. The Indians were
reported to be three hundred strong on Sand
Creek. Fort Lyou advices of September 9 state
that General Feuro.-e's company of cavalry
fought them two miles out on tlie 8th, killiug
four Indians and losing two soldiers killed and
two wounded.
, . About 1 o'clock this morning the pickets re
ported two small bands of Indians about six
miles northeast of the pott, moving westward.
On Sunday night last a Mr. Cook, living at
Centraliu, 111., wa6 robbed of $10,000 in green
backs. . ,

A Hair on li Pacific Const The Tidal

Ban Francisco, Sept. 10. It is believed that
the great tidal wave of August 14 at San Pedro
and along the Southern coast of California, was
the result of the earthquake at Callao. A dis
turbance of the tides in this harbor was aoticed
on the same day.
Arizona advices of August 25 say that Colonel
Price held a talk with a delegation of Wallajack
and llohare Indians at Kort Moharc, and the
result was an agreement that all the tribe would
assemble la twenty days in a grand council;
meanwhile hostilities to be suspended on both
sides. The Wallajack Indians nre desirous of
peace, and Colonel Price is satisfied that no
mere outraces will bo committed.
A party of miners had to go to the mountains
for safely. t . ,

Ecklington, Vt.. Sept. 10. Tho Vermont
State Fair, which is being held in this city this
week, has proved much more successful thau
lor many years past. The number of entries in
all departments is unprecedented, beinir fully
double that of any previous year in most of the
departments. Tin afternoon addresses were
delivered by Hon. George F. Edmunds, United
Btates Senator from this district, and Hon. John
A. liriawold, the Republican candidate tr
Governor in New York State. The romaluder
of the utteruoon was devoted to trotting raoes;

Thu number of competing horses for most of

fiom other btates are in attendance. To-morrow,
the last day of the fair, will be devoted to horse
exlilidtlons and awarding of premiums. Katur
day there will bo trotting races on the Stale
l air (.rounds, open to all horses; mile heats,
bent three iu five for cltizeu' purses. Quite a
largo number of pickpockets are In town, aud
several fanners have beta vllcved of their
jiocket- books.
American Meelmuicn' Celebration,
Lancaster, Sept. 11 The parade ol the United
Order ol American Mechanic in this city was
the largest and grandest civic demonstration
ever held here. -About fifty councils from this
Stats were represented, and several from Dela
ware and New Jersey. Upwards of 6000 men
were in line, and marching four abreast, occu
pud fifty minutes in pasing a given point.
Some : twenty large wagons were also in line, on
which vailed trades r Ited their profession. On

Colonel MIIqj acted as Chief Marshal. Archs
were thrown across the ontr end or four of the

There were thirly-etaht bands of m isle In the
procefion. The oration which wa to have
betn delivered did not take place.

Tub Assault on 1'oliceman Camac Law
rence Tobin, John Canigau, aud James Whal
ley had a tinal hcuriug yesterday afternoon,
before Alderman Carpenter, on the charge of
being implicated in the attack on Policeman
Camac several weeks ago, on Walnut street. Mr.
Camac teslitUd that the attack tonk place on
ihe night of the 18th of August, shortly after 9
o'clock; he was on Front street, wheu he heard
tne scream of a woman on Water strct, and
going round he saw the female, who desired
him to airest a man who had struck her iu the
mou'h; the witness attempted to make the
arrett w'nea be was struck in the back, and
knocked in the atreet; a crowd came up aud he
was knocked down; Tobm, he says, cut him in
tha side once, Gairiean cut him twice, and
Whalley kicked him in the shoulder; Tobin ha
recognized, because ho (witne.-t) struck him in
the eye; wituess spoke to several policemen
right alter the assault, whom ho told Tobin had
cut him. The counsel for the accused attempted
to slow by witness that he himself was drunk
on the occasion, but that was ruled out. Ke
servr James D. Howley testified that Immedi
ately after the assault on Mr. Camac, he started
after the crowd, and eaw Tobin, whom he recog
nized by CHhing out, "Larry, I know you:" to
which Tobin replied, "Yes, and I know you; I'll
try to get this crowd away." Several other wit
nesses were examined, when the magis'rate
concluded to hold Tobin aud Garrigan to
answer for an assault and battery with inteut to
kill, and Whalley tor an assault and battery.
Fieemen's Convention. A convention of
Bremen took place last evening at the Northern
Liberty Hose house for the purpose ot adopting
plaDs tor the reception ot the Wauregan tlook
and Ladder Company of Norwich, on their
arrival in this city on the 221 instant, Henry
McDowell, of the Good Intent Kngine Company,
in the chair. J. N. Kochersperger, of the
Northern Liberty Hose Company, was elected
Chief Marbhal, and he announced the following
aids:

Jehu McDougal, a hotel keeper at Front and
Gliard avenue, was at the Central Station yes
terday alternoon, cbargud with being concernvd
in the attack on Policeman Large, of the Tenth
District, John and Peter Pote, and Henry Rice,
which took place on Thursday evening, on the
tug William sparks, at Bridesburg. it was testi
fied that he kicked the poHcemau twice in the
lace, knocking out several teeth, aud then
flourished a huge knife, with which he struck
Mr, Rice. John wbb hound over for trial.
Casualties. The following cases were ad
mitted to the Pennsylvania Hospital dutlng
yesterday:
Thomas Craicr, 18 years of age, residing at
Sixth and Sluppen i-tieets. tell at Front aud
Arch streets, and injured himseltabout the head.
Marv O'Donnell, 40 years of age, residing at
No. 732 Bedford street, was knocked dowu by
an unknown mau, and Lad her head cut and
ankle sprained.

the sugar house of Ficker k Williams. Fifth aud
Williams streets, tniured by the rolling of a

A Race with French Velocipedes.
A Palis correspond-nt describes a race with
velocipedes which look place at Eughlcu, near
that city, on the 23 1 of A ugmt :
'Jho starting point is indicated by tall f)a
stnlnt, and as each race Is culled the competitor
emerge one by one from the Avenue de Girardin
(the famous Etnite ii Mayor of the villagj) and
take np their positions atresst of each other,
but hardly six clear feet upait, ai prescribed by
the official regulations. They are all mus Milar
looking youtis men not decked out, as Is gene

jockey caps and jackets, but wearing loose ordi
nary coats and tad boots, into which the ends of

course, which was very badly kept by the

The prizes consited of gold and silver medals
with the Knippror's pronle, made clasical as
usual by the attist, on the one side, and a laurel
wreath on the other. The contest Tor tho irold
medal accorded by tho Senator Superintendent
of the Reaux Arts, who seems to have taken
velocipedes in der his special protection, was
postponed until Sunday nert. The other prizes
contributed by the municipality, by the Com
PHty having charge of the lake and baths ol
Knphien, and by various private individuals,
includircr one or two of thi chief restaurateurs
of the place, were duly awarded, as was also the.
prize of a "tres-beau velocipede," given by the
first manufacturer ot these vehicles in Paris.
One must not omit to mention that the proceed
ings were enlivened towards Heir cloe oy some
enthusiastic srectatorovcibalaucing himself and
tailing into the lake, from wnteh, fortunately,
he was at once rescued by one of the nutuerouj
boats close at hand.
Bowling Green, Ky., is soon to be regu
