and remember the circumstance very dis

accosted the General very politely, and offered,
his hand, which he (Ueueral Wooli otfi'n-"

strictures, even from Republicans, ou the

All this General Wool enjoyed hugely. Ho

Murder upon Impulse.
Tbe singular story which follows, and which
is taken Irom a recant number of tbe London
J"ctrs, furnishes an additional cate lor the study
of psychologists:
"Gunner Berjamin Sheldon, who was hanged
at Lurk now lor having shot and killed Botnbir-
dier Wall, made a strange confassiou. Ou the
day of the murder he had been led 'by the kind
cess of hisfiieuds' to drink to excess. 'In the
evening,' he says, 'I must have been at roll-call.
aitnontu 1 do not recollect it; and the first
thing I do recollect, after leaving the canteen
when it was closed, was finding myself at tho
cot of Corporal Wall, with a carbine In my
hand. I cannot tell whether Corporal Wall was
asleep or awake. It was then, as in a moment,
1 lelt impelled by some uncontrollable impulse
to t-hoot him. I tried not to do it, but I bad no
power it was as if I could not leave the soot.
It seems to me as it 1 had been under a strong
and irresistible temptation of the devil. I do
not remember discharging" the carbine, or
sptaking to anyone; but ray next conscious
moment was, when I was being baudcuffed in
the guard-room, as one of tbe handcuffs nipped
me. It was not until tbe next morning, when
I was told of what had happened, that the cir
cumstance of having been at Corporal Wall's
cot flashed upon me."
