A Kentuckiau becoming incensed at the
boastfulness of an Englishman as to the supe
riority of British inventions, exclaimed

an inquest on the body of Benjamin Vobt, a

killed jcMcrday morning by coming in contact
with a bridge near Kuitheuville. Deceased re
sided at Kennctt Square, near West Chester.
He was a married man, and about thirty-live
years ol age.

over by the apparatus ot the Good Intent Hose.
George Morris, a diivcr in the employ of

terday and was run over, ne received a com

Larceny. Mary Campbell, colored, was
charged before Alderman Bciiler, at tbe Ceutr.il
Station, yetterday, with the tUeit ot articles of
jewelry iroin a boarding-house ou South Wash
ington Square, where she was employed a3 a
dome-die. Frances Laflerty, the complainant,
testiQed to the theit, nud the officer who made
the arrest stated that the defendant admitted
her guilt, nnd said that she had pawned the ar
ticles stolen, giving the name of the pawn
broker who had received them; that ho called
on the broker, who denied a knowledge ot the
UCUueeO, and U.e roouipt of the jewelry. MurV

Goods Found. Several lads playing about a
board pile, in what is known us Morris City,
which is north of Girard avenuo and west of
Twenty-tilth s'reet, found concealed behind it
on Thursday four rolls ot calico, which had evi
dently been placel there by a thief until they
could be removed without much risk. They
were banded over to the Lieutenant of Police
of the Twelfth District, and they cm be seen at
the Twentieth Ward Station, Tenth and Thomp
son streets.
Re-Arrested. John Roat, who made his
escape lrom officer Uazlitt a few days since,
has been recaptured. Roat was shot by the
policemau, who discharged several loads of his
revolver at the crowd. The bull struck the
check bono, glanced and passed around to the
tide ol the head, where it lcdgo.d. It has been
extracted, ami the wound is hot causing much
pain, nor giving rise to much apprehension of
danger.
Democratic Meeting. The Democrats of
Gcrmuntowu held a meeting at the wigwam last
evening. They raised a ling, bearing the names
ot Seymour nud Blair, for the Presidency aud
"Vice l'revidincy. In the wigwam Mr. Henry
Coeet-haH presided. Speeches were mi.de by
Nathan C. James aud iiarman Yerkes, ol Doylcs
town, Colonel Zulich, of this city, and others.
WISCELLAHEOUS CITY JOTTINGS:
Tbe General Government are tearing down
the buildings used as barracks during the war,
on the ground opposite Foit Delaware, as the
post is to be abandoned.
Tbe Eleventh baptist Church, in this city,
have unanimously culled the Rev. Clias. Kcyser,
of Binghaiutou, Y., to become their pastor.
Mr. Keyser is the author of the Prize Catechism,
published by the Baptist Publication Society.
The Gas Truees give uotice that from and
after to day the piice ol gas will be udvauced to
$2.55 per thousaud lect. The Trustees give as
the caute for the advance the increase of the
pay to the workmen.
Washington F. Pcdrlck, of this city, who
was the private secietary of Attorney General
