THE DAT1A EVENING TELEGRAPH PHILADELPHIA, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1867. MUSIC A L AND DRAMA TIC. "La Fa vobita" at the Academy of Music The Academy or Muslo wi filled again last evening; by the unquestionably eaperlor troupe of Max Htrakosoli. Butln consideration of the unstinted favor which has greeted their ap pearance thin week, It would not be demand ing too ranch on the part of a generous pnbllo to require them to contrive In some way to plote up the half hour they have lost. On Monday evening the commencement of the opera wjb greatly delayed, atid the umi vexatious delay occurred last evening. After watting quietly fer a full quarter of an hour, the audience lost all palfcuoo, and gave vent to their dissatisfac tion by a series of cheers and stampings, which Wan anything but Agreeable; and when the opera was once falrlj;under way, that Indolent tceuius, lirlgnoll, put the patience of the andl ence to another tent. He was allowed ample tlmoto change lit monkish robe for his sol dierly tunic a chorus by the ladles being pur posely interposed to give blm the opportunity. Yet this bad to be repealed, and considerable time was even then consumed lnawaltlng hi appearance. When at last the great tenor stepped from his boat and rolled down the stage to the footlights, he was greeted by a mix ture of applause and hisses, the latter fairly predominating, and . continuing for some xnlnules. But this dilatory nolilovement was not the only triumph which crowned the erratic Brig -noil. In the last act of the opera occurs a gem Of an aria o.immenolng Spirilo gcnlil. Blguor Brlgnoll's rendition of this is not surpassed by anything In his extensive repertoire. The ex julite mannor In which he sang K last even ing completely overcame the 111-feeling of the audience towards him, and received a hearty encore. Blgnor Bilguoll acknowledged the compliment by beckoning to Buhlnl to take up the following strain, but the applause con tinued so loud that t bo deep bass voice of the latter was completely drowned. Whereupon Blgnor Brignoll coolly tucked his haud und r Buslnl's arm and led him from the stage, hlch was completely deserted for sevtral minutes. This brilliant performance of the great tenor waa fully equal to anything In his past course. His conduct Inst evening throughout exhibited a marked contrast to that of the courteous and palps-tablng Orlnndlnl. The latter was born and bred a gectleman. What, few qualities be longing lo that character lhatSlgnor Brignoll possesses have evidently been picked up In a caspal way, and seemingly without Impressing him with a sense of their desirableness. With these exception!., Donizetti's grand opera of La Fuvorita was performed In a man ner thut gave entire satisfaction to the au:ll" ence. Miss Adelaide Phillips, In the rote or '.Leonora," has seldom appeared to better ad" vantage. Her vocalization and her action were equally good. Slgnor Orlnndlnl, the loading baritone cf the troupe, made his first appearance before a Philadelphia audience, as "Don Al phonso," and was at once received Into high favor. His duo with "Leonora," lu the second act, was a severe test of the com pass and quality of bis voice, and tho imperative encore which It received established his triumph completely. Elgnor Buslnl, as "BUiiuznr," was even In bet ter voice than usual, and made a further ad vance In the favor of the puuuc. Altogether the opera was superbly rendered; and but for the useless delays which marred the perform ance of It, the Audlenco would have been favored with a degree of enloyment which is seldom granted even by a first-class troupe. Mozart's inuslorplice of Don Glovatmi Is on the programme for this evening; Including In the cast La Grange, Phillips, McUulloch, Bi ig noli, Orlnndlnl, Suslni, and ColettL Maij'lle Jakausculk as"Dkboraii." The audiences at the Chesnut Street Theutre are etenilily improving, a larsr ouo than ever greeting Mad'lle Jatauschek lust evening, on ner appearance as "Dcboiah," In Dr. Mosen thal's drama of the same name, The story of Leah, the Forsaken, Is so latnillar to our readers that It needs no comment. Mad'lle Jauaus chek's conception ol the character is fully equal to her previous efforts In "Medea" aud "Adrlenne," and by her earnestness aud deli cacy she added a fresh laurel to the wreath which has crowned her during her brief en gagement In this cily. This evening, Goethe's great tragedy of Eymont will be presented, with the nccompanlament of Beethoven's original music. Fob the Holidays Only. The celebrated Hanlon Brothers will occupy the stage at the Academy of Muslo next week, every evening and on the afternoons of Wednesday (Christ mas) and Saturday, December 28. They will be assisted by some of tbe most eminent members of tbelr profession from the principal theatres of Europe, besides a miniature circus of learned performing quadrupeds. The Hanlon Brothers' will be assisted also by Jean Arlotll, the cele brated equilibrist, and Le Petit Elhardo, the most accomplished little gymnast in the world. Harry Ourr, the great "Aquarian, or Natator, the Man Fish," will also appear, with many other wonderful performers. These entertain ments will prove perfect, carnlvalsof funfor the little folks during the holidays. HOLIDAY PRE8ENT3. LEWIS LA DO MUG & CO., Diamond Dealers & Jewelers, No.802 CHESNUT Street.
