THE FIRST LIGHTING TBm TO CHEYEflflE.
A Private BnfTale) Hasting Party.
Fr21?f?nTChe,Kennf (Dal"h Territory) Daily
Argus, Nov. 11. Just started.
A pi-Irate party of ladles and gentlemen
arrived yesterday from ,ew York, by upocial
train. A two thousand mile buOalo hunilnir
excursion. The party consiHs of Thorn m C.
I)urant, Vlco-Presldent U. P. II. It ; George
francis Train. Mrs. Train, Miss Suite Train and
rnaidaclno Hallroad Cominisslonor White and
Mrs. Whlto, Mrs. Ueorfce W. Frost, Miss Carria
I'0 Mt Abble T. Hhaw, and Captain I. W.
UavU. They stopped at Kearney lor h buffalo
punt, and accompanied by Major and Mrs.
Dallas, Dr. and Mrs. Bradley, of the Fort, and
under escort of Captain North and his Pawnee
Indians, they had some rare sport on Saturday.
The first buflalo hunt with ladles. Train Im
mortalizes it in an epigram.
George Francis Train's epigrammatic sketch of
the buflalo hunting party of New York ROutle
ninn and ladles, with a special car on a special
train to tbeltocltv Mountaintr
Captain Norlb with bis Pawnee seouU
Flint gave Die signal, then the Indian shouts
"Oir add Inn, bridles, tor a barebaolc tight,"
Wild Jlullalo and Indians, what a sight I
Durum, Davis, North, and Train,
Like wlldure sweep acrnsn the plain,
Down goes a pony Id a gopher hole,
And on tlio Prairie see the Pawnee roll,
While neck to neck with giants of their rare,
For many a Dalle we led the exciting chase,
'Mid sbot and Bhrleksand Indian cries,
The ladles shout, "Tti a Kison iir.."
OEORUK FRANCIS TRAIN,
Fork Kearney, Nov. 9, 1807.
81x buffalo hunting parties have individualized
the season. The Frost-Collins party killed
seventeen. The Colonel Butter, Enellsh officer
party, shot iorty. The Ennlieh House of Com
mons, Lord Morley Cooper party, killed six.
The George P. Smith, one hundred and fifty
editor party, killed twenty-three. The Ossian K
Dodge party, shot four. And now the number
four, New York Opera Box, Madison Avenue,
Durant-Train party, Saturday, killed nine. This
will end the hunting of the season, as the buffalo
are already out of ranee. The party rodo fifty
miles, and struck a herd ot thousands. Never
before had Indies and school girls been sur
rounded by Pawnee Indians and wild buffalo.
Sue Train astonished the Indians by her reck
less riding, Mr. Train's epigram on bis little
daughter's bold dash among the buffalo is a de
cided hit. Porhsps the first time the Pawnees
ver acted as escort to a Woux Train. Here
it is;
BOB THAI V, THE BUFFALO STEEPLE CHASER,
A little school girl, twelve years old,
Went hunting bnllalo wiLh Pawnees bold.
With hair and bridle Hying loose,
The Ii dlans cheer the while papoose,
Bo strange a sight who'll ever see agalnT
A I'awnee sscoit to a wild Hue Train,
Colonel George P. 8mith, the editorial chief of
iDe great excursion, joined the party at Jules,
burg. The party breakfasted with General
Casement, on board the iaruous track-laying
hotel, and after writing the Pyramids, Paeodas,
Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the Pompey's Pillar
of our ancient city, started off for Train's New
Saratoga of the Rocky Mountains, and to Fort
Saunders and the Laramie hunting-fields. Tratn
has come onto build his grand hotel for Coz
ens, and the party, we understand, will visit
Denver. The Vice-President is on the business
of the Company, arranging to push on the road
over the mountains. Train says the country
may thank him for stopping the Indian war,
and In his usual caustic style has nailed the fact
on the counter. Here is hie epigrammatic set
tlement ol the Indian question:
The engine whistle of Pacific trains
Will drive the bison and the red man from the Plains.
My Indian speech with old Hen Wade
riiecked a frontier war. The treaty made
gaves a hundred millions ol the Jay Cooke flood.
The nation's honor and the people's blood.
George Francis may well be called the Light
ning Train. Five weeks ago he was with the
Wall street gold brokers, lour weeks ago pilot
ing the great Kditonal Excursion, three weeks
ago he was In Cheyenne selecting the spot for
his grand hotel and his Rocky Mountain water
ing giounds, two weeks ago he was revolution
izitig Kansss, defeating Itebel disfranchisement
and negro suffrage, and championing woman
suffrage and greenbacks, where he was nomi
nated by ten mass meetings for the White House:
Saturday he was smashinc Into the buffalo, and
was here yesterday, hail lellow with the boys of
Cheyenue. All the Argus has to say to the
guetts is, welcome to Cheyenne. Welcome Du
rant. Welcome the Commissioners. Welcome
"The Irrepressible," and three cheers for the
ladies, who are the first to visit the Rocky
Mountains by rail. .
