the late disaster; make our organization perfect,
and resolve that defeat should never occur

his hands the elements of power to bring order
out ot chaos.
The American heart has turned Instinctively
to General Grant, and desires him for a leader.
The world knows his position, notwithstanding
his silence. He does not need to swing around
the circle, "like his superior oflicer, Andrew
Johnson, and anuounce that "lirst 1 was an alder
Bian, then a mayor, etc."
His actions speak with eloquence for him.
With Grant, Congress will be sustained.
The lollowing resolutions were offered by S.

Complex a Ld strange ai are the times we live
in, they are nevertheless the most Important
that tbe world has ever seen. The dritt is on

Torones and empires s-priLg up in a night and
fall in a day. Crius crowds upon crisis. There
is a manlUBt consistency iu them; they aie de
termining the power of the law. The grand
Idea that every bJUiau being washed by the
blood of Emuiauucl is a child of GoJ, no matter
what may bo his color, is lakiuf possession of
the public wind.
These are blessed times: the feet of God are
n, ou the waters, and His vo ce Is heard above
the storm, curing for His childien; aye, even the
least of twem. But blessed a they are, they are
but the dim dawn of a glory that hai never yet
been seen; they ure but the passing away of
the mltlniiilit darkness and gloom before the
morn of dav whose meridian Is drawing near.
