of Ormonde, for iTG. But Mich volume
have fetched much larger prices than these. I
have heard ot one picked up on an old bookstall
for half a crown Belling lor 120. There is a
very Cue collection ot proclamations in the
library of the Society of Antiquaries. In the
Bodleian is the magnidcent volume of Eliza
bethan proclamations, and the library of
Queen'. Collcpe, Oxford, has a collection which
is nearly, if not quite, matchless, ransinir from
1558 to 1694. It contains mora than one thou
sand proclamations, to say nothing of a very
large collection of acts, ordinances, etc., issued
during tho Common wealth. The only portion lu
which it is weak is the time ot Charle3 I. Hut In
addition to this, the same library possesses two
niOtt precious voIuidps, containing a series of
proclamations, partly printed and partly iu
manuscript, fiom the time of Henry VII to
1641. Many of the manuscripts are the orminal
draughts as prepared for the Privy Couucil;
ffouie of the Ehabetnan ones h'iv.ng correc
tions in the handwriting of Mr. Secretary Cecil,
and some of the Caroline ones in that of Mr.
becrctary Windebank. Two of them aro th?
original copies in vellum, with the signature of
Charles J. Hut perlmpj the most intereslinjr
paper iu the collection is a copy of tho only
proclama'ioa issued by Lidy Jane (irev. Jt is
a somewhat elaborate document, beginning,
"Jane, by the erace of od. Queen," etc., and
dated "Julie If), 155J." Grafton lost his privi
lege as Qucen'tj printer iu consequence of hav
ing roiinied it. Ii was at one time supposed to
be"uuiqu. Another copy, however, h.is turned
up, which is now in the possession of tho Anti
quarian Society ; hut it is liOt to be compared
with the beautiful copy at Quecu's.
Very curious and intoiesting proclamations
turn up sometimes. Not long since theie was
secured for the Royal Library at Windsor one

Hook collectors sometimes have a fancy for
