One set, In duplicate, for delivery et soon points of
Maid Causeways and Piers, as way be required, soma
three hundred perches, mnre or less, of foundation,
or one man, two man a fid three man stone, for a
double-faced, dry stone wall, and some six hundred
or leas running fret of coping stone, with natural
races, similar to that already UHert In causoways. The
coping may vary In thickness from 6 to 10 Inches, In
width from 1-9 to 8-6, and In lengths from a to 8 feet.
All the stone furnished to be of a hard and durable
quality, and ol such form as when laid to make a
iron and compact wall. . . ,
Protmals will slate the rate per perch of twenty
five cubic feet for foundation stone, and per cubic fool
for coping, delivered on the premises, In such quanti
ties and at such times as shall he required.
A second set. In duplicate, for "rnlsh ng inj to

reqiilreS. The material to be quarry dirt earth, mud
gravel, one or more of thene. The rate per cubic yard

and appliances necessary for repairing and building
the Causeways, W alls, etc., and for doing said work
In accordance with Instructions given. The work to
he well done, the front and back of wall thoroughly
tied together. All stones laid dry.
The proposals for labor will state the rate per pf reh
of twenty-five cubic feet laid in the wall. This rate
to cover every expense of preparing foundation
v. here necessary, of building aoew, and of removing
and relaying portions ol old work. As far as practi
cable, the old materlnls now on the premiss to be
used In the construction.
Materials and labor will at all times be subject to
rigid Inspection and to rejection by annuls of the
United states. All materials to be delivered and
labor performed by January 1. 1H18.
Twenty per centum to bu reserved on any part pay
ment made.
The general character of work to be done, and ol
atone required, will be best understood by uu exami
nation of the premises.
Each bid must be guaranteed by two responsible
persons, whose signatures should benpppnded to the
guarantee, and who should be certified to as being
good and sulllclenl security by the United status Dis
trict Judge, Attorney, Collector, or other public
cllicer.

tween Fort Monroe, Vu., and Cherrystone, Va.
1 be Cable extends from the Back Klver tight, near
Fort Monroe, to theCherrystoue Light, and Is twenty
three miles (23) long, more or leas. Tne conductor
consists of seven (7) No. sixteen (10) copper wires,
and Is double armored. The Inside armor Is ot No
sixteen 16) wire; laid spirally. The outside armor Is
of No. six (6) galvani.ed wire, laid parallel, and
bound with Mo. nine ('.) galvanized wire; the whole
weighing tn (10) tons to the mile.
It was manufactured In Europe for the Government
during the war. ....
