Whereas, Kvans A Waton, Bare-makers, In the
city of Philadelphia, did combine and conspire with a
certain Boston company to cheat deceive, and hum
bug the people of this city and vicinity with a certain
fixture which they propose to attach to Fire-proofs;
and whereas, they did obtain the aid and counte
nance of certain oflicers and gentlemen connected
with the Fair at Norristown (throtigu deception, no
doubt) to assist In said combination and conspiracy
on the Fairground by a sham burning of bales which
all safe-makers well understand.
Now, therefore, be It known that X, M. C. Sadtor, of
the city of Philadelphia, do oiler and propose to burn
ne of Llllie's Chilled lrun Sales, with one of Evans
fc Watson's, having the Boston fixture attached, both
to be ol same el.e as burnt d on the Fair grounds,
Llllie's ISbIb to be made with six-Inch composition
walls, on the principle he makes safes, and lh Kvaus
& Watson Hale to be six-Inch composition walls, in
cluding the Boston attachment, and on the principle
Of their usual make.
The Bales to he burned at some convewent place In
the city of Philadelphia, on the 2d of October next,
weather lair, or the first lair day iherealler,
Kvaus cfc Watson are hereby uolilied that they can
make and have ready the Safe by that time the best
they can make, as abovespecilied, and a disinterested
committee shall be appointed equally by each parly,
and In the usual way,

able lime, then their (safe will be furnished by other
parlies.

One set. In duplicate, for del'very at such points of
said Causeways and Piers, ns may be required, some
tnree hundred perches, more or less, of foundation,
or one man, two man and three mau stone, for a
dnuhle-fucrd , dry stone wall, and some six hundred
or less running feet ol cnplng stone, with natural
rooes. similar to that alrendy used In causeways. The
coping may vary In Ihlrkuess from to III niches, fli
w ilths from 2- to 8 8. and In lengths from H to 6 leet.
All the stone lurnished to be of a hard and durable
quality, and ol such form as when laid to make a
strong and compact wall.
Prou'sals will slate the rate per perch or twenty
nve cubic leet lor foundation stone, and per cubic foot
for coping, delivered on the premises. In such quanti
ties and at such times as shall he required.
A second set, in duplicate, for furnishing and de
livering on the Csuoeways and Piers all the tilling
required. 1 he material to be nimrrv dirt earth, mud
gravel, one or more of tbee. The fate per cubic yard
ol each to be slated, and this rate to cover all ex
penses. Including i nning the material In portion.
A third set, in duplicate, lor furnishing all the labor
ard appliances necessary for repairing and building
tlieCausew ays, Walls, etc., and for doing said work
In accordance wlih Instructions given. The work to
he well done, the front and back of wall thoroughly
lied together. All stones laid drv.
The proposals for labor will state the rate per prch
of twenty-live cubic feet laid In the wall. This rate
to cover every expense of preparing foundation
where necessary, ol bnlltlng anew, and of removing
and relaying po'tlon ol ol.l work. As far as practi
cable, the old materials now on the premises to he
used In the construction.
Materials and labor will at all times be subject to
tlgid Inspection and to rejection by agents of the
tilted Mates. All materials to be delivered and
labor periormed by January 1, 18s.
Twenty per centum to he reserved on any part pay
ment made.
'1 he general character of work to ho done, and ol
stone required, will be best understood by mi exami
nation of the premises.
Kach bid must he guaranteed by two responsible
persons, whose signatures should be appended to the
guarantee, and who should be certified to as being
good and Biifliclent security by the United Slates Dis
i Met Judge, Attorney, Collector, or other public
