A communication was received froM Mi'. Wil
liam P. Troth, resigning his seat in the Hoard
of Health. Tbe resignation was accepted.
Charles A. Souder. elected member of Council
from the Nineteenth Ward, for the unexpired
h tm of Joseph Earnest, resigned, preeuted his
certificate ot election, wa9 eworn in, and took
his seat.
The iioiler bill, which was under difcusslon
at the, adjournment ot Councils on Thursday
last, then came up on the tenth section, tne tirst
nine having been passed at the last meeting.
The tenth section is as fellows:
Miction 10. The Inspector, or any of his
assistants under his order, is empowered to
Incur the necessary expenses of transportation.
Mr. Potter moved to btrike out the entire sec
tion. It was agreed to.

the Commissioner of Highways to notify the
Lombard and South Streets Paswriner Hallway

the Department of Water for a new englue at
the Ti'iity-fouitU Ward Works, was passed.
The Chair named Mr. Creeley on tho Commit
tee on Fire and Trust, and Mr. bonder on the
Committee of Markets, etc.

dians to n.ake certain transfers was aareed to.

Ordinance to lay water-j ipe on Eighth btreet,
from Tar-kcr to Morris street.
Ordinance to erect new out-hoases to public
ichools. .
Ordinance 8rpro7ing a certain contract m the
erection of school buildings in the Tweuty-nfih
Maid.
The Finance Committee repot ted an ordinanco
making an appropriation for 1808, to the Com
missioners ot the Sinking Fund, which passed.
The Highway Committee reported the follow

Richard Taylor, flgpd 38 years, residing at No.

was wajlaid and badly beaten at Fi'th aud Reed
streets. His assallauts were compofl'-d of ten or
a dozen men, who were armed with clubs,
knives, and other weapons. Mr Taylor wa
knocked down, and so seriously injured that
dining jcfterday his physicians considered his
recovery doubtful. He stated last eveuiug that
tho man who Inflicted most of tho blows had
what appeared to be a tube Inserted In tho s'de
of h's rose. Mr. Taylor is a man of family, an1
is represented to be a quiet and industrious
citizen.

Thompson is doing an excellent busii.e s. She
takes her first bei.ebt to-nichl, and will app-ar
tn a favorite roe, supported by the entire
strength of tho new company. Next week, ui
ftntwer to a geneial request from her ladv
friends, Mi-s Chutlotte Thompson will appear
in Lil c Barefoot- play in which she has no
equal on the stage. Miss Thompson's engage
ment is limited to twelve nights, aud those who
desire to witness her tine acting should avail
themselves ot the present opportunity.
Ancu Street Theatre. Mr. Kdiuund Fal
coner lakes his first benefit to-night. His new
play of Innisfalen, which has been quiic sue
cesslul here, will be presented. It is one of the
most elegant and attractive Irish dramas on the
stage. Miss Kate Reiguolds is superb in "Katy
Magnire." Let Mr. Falcomer have a good house,
and remember that we seldom have an "author's
night" in this country. Mrs. John Drew an
nounces that she has Olive Logan's pleasant
dramatic sketch of Surf in rehear.-.al.
Chesntjt Street Theatre. Mr. James E.
Murdoch continues his successful engagement,
and for his Detent to night will appear iu the
Stranger. Kolzebue's niasterwork will he pre
sent) d in an excellent manner. The cast is un
usually good.
American Tdfatre. The Vaiietv Troupe
appeal in an excellent bill to-night. The grand
prismatic fountain will be exhibited as usual.
The American is now called the "Alhtunbra
Palace" oi America. Matinee to-morrow after
noon as usual.
Tbb Black Crook continues attractive at the
Academy ot Music. A matinee will be given
tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon. Next week
will be the last of the Black Crook and the Pai i
sienne ballet,
Academy op Music Madame Adelaide Ris-
tori will appear in her ereat roic of "Elizabeth,"
on Monday evening, October 21, on Tuesday
evening in Mary Stuart, and on Wednesday In
her new play of Marie Antoinette.
Concert Hall. Next Tuesday evening, Oc
tober 15, an admirable panorauia and series of
large paintings will be exhibited, representing
the Apocalypse, or Revelation ot 8t. John.
These paintings are all from the easel of Ham-
matt Minings, Esq., aDd are painted from origi
nal designs of that great genius of modern art
