One ol tbe greatest among tho many advan
tages of Philadelphia is that of its being the
healthiebt city in the United Sta'cs, as the fol
lowing statement of the mortality of the city

The above sliows that, so tar the preseut
year, the deaths have been 2045 less than during
the same period in 1600. If we deduct tbe
deaths from cholera (910) in 1806, we still have
a larpe margin in favor ol 1807. Oi the whole
number of deaths the present year, 6709 were
males and 5202 females. The number of chil
dren who died of the a?,e of five years and
under waa 6107, or nearly one-half of the toial
mortality forthe whole nine months. 83J ol the
whole number were over 70 years of age.
IUilroad Casualty. Karl on Sunday
moriiing the body of a man was found on the
track ot the Reading Hailroad, just above Potts
town, oo much mutilated that it is thought
a whole train of cars mtii-t have passed over it.
Potb arms and both legs were severed from tbe
body, it was etill warm when found. The
raau was of medium height, and apparently
about twenty-five to thirty years of age. The
right arm was marked iu India Ink with the
figuieol a female, and the letters It. H.; the
leiihim had several walks, also la India ink,
that cannot be de'cribed to a-, to bo understood.
The body remains at the Pottstown .depot for
ie iitii"ution. ilis clothing was that of'a work-

dents occurred in consequence of five horses
