CITY INTELLIGENCE. (FOB ADDITIONAL LOCAL ITEMS 8KB 0CT8IBB PASES. Democratic Meeting. A large Democratic meeting was held last evening at the corner of Twelfth and Spring Garden btreets, Peter Arm bruster in tbe chair. J. LSarnholt acted as Se cretary. During the evening aldreases were made by Thomas Grecnbacb, John U'Bjrne, Esq., and others. Streets to be Paved. The following streets have been ordered to be paved, as soon as convenient: Fisler 6treet, from Huntingdon street to Lehigh avenue; Eleventh street, from Tasker to Cross street, and Thirth-uinth street, from Woodland to Market street. Seventeenth street, lroni Federal to Reed street, is also to be graded, at a cost not exceeding $1.30. Short Weight. During the past week the Clerks of Markets seized one hundred and thirty-three lumps of butter, all light weight. Sixty of them were taken from dishonest dealer in South Eleventh Street Market, and seventy one from the Farmers' Market, in Market street. AMUSEMENTS. Academy of Music The Black Crook is des tined to have a great run, notwithstanding the unpleasant faux paa at its initial representation here. Mad'llc Pepita is acknowledged to be an artiste of unusual ability. She is exceedingly praceful even in her most arduous posturiug and Terj'Bichorean fiiehts. Her aeility is wou tlerful. Miss Hetty Rc&al is a perfect Hebe, in form and feature, and kindles the enthusiasm. admiration, and wonder of the audience wheu, in the first act, she glides through her trans lation of "li Bacio." The audience are the more surprised to see a lady of unusual weight aud muscular development waltz upon "one tiptoe," and execute a graceful acte d'equipoise at the same time. Misses Betty and Pepita are ably supported by Miss Emily Regal, Mad'lles Anto neno, Frank, and the corps de coryphets In at tendance. The scenery of the spectacle is very fine, aud the dramatic portions are rendered in au ac ceptable manner. "Oceana," the lady who enacted the part of "Queen Stalacta," has beeu replaced by Airs. Ryner. Mrs. Ryneris a very deservirig aetress, but lacks much of the lustrous womanly beauty of "Oceana." "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Shake ppeare's greatest lairy play.produced in a manner worthy of the fame of the author, will be pre sented at the Walnut Street Theatre this and every evening this week, and on Saturday after noon. No fuch spectacle has ever been pro duced in this city, and every person who can admire the great triumphs of scenic art should not tan to see tnis piece. On Monday night the manaeement will pro duce Mr. T. VV. Robertson' copyriehtof Caste, for which the author has been paid handsomely, and who writes to say that it is the only autho rized version of his play produced south of New York. The distribution of characters is excel lent, and embraces all of the leading artistes of the new company. We are pleased to announce thai Mr. and Mrs. Gomersul are retained. They have made hosts of friends in Philadelphia. "Mr. Sirnoir Hassler has arranged some beautiful music for the entr'actes next week, including several fresh morceaux de salon from Pans, London, and Uerlin. Shortly we hope to hear "Sweetest Peusan, don't say No," w hich has been sung in London for teven hundred nights, at the hands of Mr. liasrsler. Chesnut Stkeet TnEATitE. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Florence will conclude their engaeement at the Chesnut next Saturday n;j!ut. Tbey have been very successful, ana fcave made many iriunds and admirers here. Perhaps they would have done even better if our people were more intimately acquainted with their versatile talents. tin Monday nieht Mr. James R. Murdoch, the distinguished histrion, patriot, aud scholar, will befiin au engagement, which the citizens will see to it is long and successful. At the request of many irieiids in Philadelphia, Mr. Murdoch has arranged the lollowiner programme tor his opcLing week: Monday, Wine Works Wonders: Tuesday, Money: Weiltiedav. liVci 0ufs; Thurs day, jUoney; Friday, Miwlt Ado About Nothing; Saturday, Wine Works Wonders. In allot these Mr. Murdoc h is excellent, au 1 in no lour rotes oi his legitimate repertoire could he appear to better advantage. BiiND Tom.
