gallons of Jamaica rum; two ounces of tincture
of reno; two ounces of putric acid; one gallon
of syrup, etc.; color with cochineal.
And this is the way all the fancy drinks that
sleep In glittering bottles in a thousand bur
rooms are made. Whose stomach., whose hraio,
could stand such villanous concoctions?
The Enrolment of the Militia is now being
made in tins city, in accordance with the act of
1864, anc" the supplement to the act for the
regulation of the First Division of the Pennsyl
vania Militia, passed during the last session of
the Legislature. This supplement provides
that all persons who are subjected to military
duty in the First Division, and wno are not no
members of some volunteer organization, shall
either become members of some military or
ganization, or sha.l pay into the Treasury of the
city ot Philadelphia annually the sum of two
dollars, which sum shall be a commutation tor
fines and penalties lor neglect to perioral mili
tary tervices." The fund thus raised is to be
given to the officers ot the militia and of the
.Reserve Brigade who arc now or may hereafter
be entitled by law to draw upon the same.
It also provides that every commissioned, non-
commissioned oincer, musician, and private ot
each and every uniformed company, who shall
faithfully serve as a member of a uniformed
company, attached to the brigades in the First
Division, shall be exempt from acting as a juror
aunng suen bervice. .Homing in tne act or sup

The last two flections of the supplementary
hill provides: That while either or any of the
organizations, hereby reinstated to their origi
nal nehts, privileges, and immunities, remain
unauacnea to any ongaoe organization, if a
company, all the commissioned officers thereof.
if a regiment, then the field officers thereof shall
form a board, who shall have power to draw
upon sain commutation fund, in the hands of
the City Treasurer, in such manner, and in such
proportions as are prescribed by the second
section ot this act: Provided, That the fund so
disbursed shall not exceed twenty dollars per
man per annum, which said proviso Is also made
applicable to all other boards or parties who
are now, or may hereafter, by law, be entitled to
draw upon said commutation fund; the fund so
realized by said drawing shall, in all cases, be
d.sbuned to keep, support, and maintain the
organizations entitled to receive the same; and
the officers drawing thereon shall, on the first
cay ot .November, in each and -every year, reu-

Sabbath-bchool Teachers' Institute. Last
evening, the last of the series of meetings of the
Sabbath-school Teachers in this vicinity took
piace at tne ircsDyteriau Church. Franktora.
Borne time was spent in devotional exercises,
when It. G. Fardee, Esq., of New York, de
livered an address. He was followed by Prof.
John 8. Uart on the subject. "Tne Huperiuten-
dent and his duties." Mr. Samuel W. Clark
closed with an address On "The Blackboard and
its uses."
A Worthy Object. The Rev. Richard B.
Coulter, a colored preacher from Augusta, Ga.
and formerly the slave of Alfred Coulter, of
Rome. Ga.. Is at present in this city, having come
here for the purpose of raisiug money sufficient
to build a school-house and church at Louisville.
Jetlerson county, Ua. Last evening he delivered
a k cture in the Union Baptist Church, Minster
fctreet. above Sixth, before a largo audieuce. He
relerred particularly to his experience in the
army. Alter he had concluded a collection was
taken up.
Collision. Last night, about 8 o'clock, a
train ot cars on toe Philadelphia, Germantown.
and Mornstown Iiailroud collided with a horse
and cart at Ninth street and Montgomery ave
nue. The cart was completely demolished, and
the driver, Charles fehunck, was somewhat in
jured, me horse escaped with a slight bruise.
CAMDEN AFFAIRS.

occasion attracted a number of the elite ot tbe

very novel and peculiar maimer. Ibe wulla
vere tilled with fcieutitic. aitisiic, and Hncual
illustrations, intended to be used in toe course
ot instruction adopted by this institution. They
were arranffcd with much taste, and made a
mrv credituoie appearance.

Tbikd to Raise a Fioht. Robert Oftloer and
William Corey ere arrested at the Diaroojd
Cottage on Wednesday, by Officers Owen Hnd
Johntry. for attemtitine to fight. A quarrel
commenced between the two men. but what
originated it we could not lcai n. Corey pulled
oil his coat, and dared the other to flsbt him.
He was requested to put the garment on,
which he did. The parties then repaired to the
outside of the erounds, when the quarrel was
returned, Corey oflering Officer $2 60 if he
would go to ihe other side ot Market street
brlaVe and fight htm. Officer declined, but
mid be would fight him at a place on Front
Mrt et, above Plum. The duo were on tbir way
thiiber when they were arrested. They were
fined by the Mavor, and cautioned against rais
ing a disturbance In the streets.
A Hard Case. Patrick Palmer, by some
means, became' pos-esed of about $10. lie
magnanimously paid his children's board with a
portion of the amount, but very unwLely 1n
vts'ed the remainder iu liquor. The conse
quence was, Patrick became dead drunk, and
was lound by Poilceman Mortland lying in the
middle of the street. He was eecortel to the
Mayor's office, and alter a Hearing before his
Honor he was lined. Yesterday morniug he
was permitted to depart, with tho adniouition
if be was arrested aeain lor drunkenness he
would be committed to tuc County Jail for
thirty days.
Porn Robbery. Yesterday afternoon a Her
man girl visited a m loon on Front street, for
the purpose of indulging in the luxury of a
plate of ice cream. She had tied what little
money he possessed, amounting to three dollars,
in the corner of her handkerchief. Having paid
for the ii e cream, she tied the remainder up iu
the ailicle iu question.
A young man near by perceiving this:, walked
up to the girl and rielioeratoly smi'diel the
handkerchief from her hand, and made off. 8he
followed for fcnif oi-tanee, but lie threatened to
hit her i'h n stone if she pursued him any fur
ther. The thief then made good his escape.
Conductor Assaulted. Two men assaulted
the conductor of the excursion train on the
Camden and A'lant'c Railroad, yes'erday after
noon, became he would not procure them seats.
The car was excessively crowded, and It wm im
possible to hnd a seat, trance to say, although,
policerai n were in woitinir at the Camden depot,
they wire not arrened, a consultation having
becu held, aud it was decided not to subject them
to arrest.
Formal Opening. Gelz's new hall, at the
corner of Fourth ard Plum streets, was for
mally opened on Thursday evenins?. This Cam
den Mainncichor were iu attendance, and sang
some pleasing a!rs, which were received wnh
applause from the invited guests. Everythiun
passed otf in eood order, every one expressing
themselves highly gratified at the completion
ot the ball.
Larceny op Shoe Lasts. Policeman Mason
arrested a man on Wednesday, for the larceny
of six pairs of shoe lasts, from off one ot the
ferry boats. He was committed to answer at
Court by Mayor Cox.
Foundling. A male child, apparently six
months old, was lound on the commons, near
Sixth and Market street, on Tuesday evening.
The little straDeer was sent to the Almshouse.
Dkunkennebs. Several arrests were made
yesterday aud the day before, for drunkenness
aud disorderly conduc. The inebriates wer
subjected to a fine and then released.
Dead Infant Found. A dead infant wa3
found by Policeman Hane on Wednesday, on a
vacant lot in the South ward.
