A wild man who had for some time been living in the woods around Draguignan, France, was a few days back found burned to death by the late fire in the forest of that vi cinity. M. Theodore Rousseau, the eminent French landscape painter and gold medallist of the Exhibition, has been struck with paralysis of the left side. Hopes are entertained of hid re covery. A washerwoman in Milwaukee, known as Old Kate, died recently with singular symp toms. The doctors found a number of large live crabs in her stomach. She had probably drank the eggs in water. The late Duke de Moray's estates at Deauville are about to be sold. He erected this pleasant watering place under imperial patronage, but it has not attraoted visitors, and property there is very much depreciated. An approximate estimate places the amount required at 12,500,000,000. Another manifestation in favor of the union of the States of Southern Germany to the Northern Confederation took place at Stuttgard on the 6th. The Assembly con sisted of the leading public men of Bavaria, Wnrtemberg, Baden, and Hesse. A large reduction has been made in the import duty on cereals at all Portuguese ports. The operation of this free-trade decree is limited to the end of the present year. Per haps it will be found to work so well that the Government may be persuaded to continue it. The Suez Canal people only want a hun dred millions (of francs) more, and with that sum they pledge themselves to complete their work. This, it will be remember? d, is the fourth hundred of millions they have asked for; they have already had three. There is every prospect of an excellent harvest in Southern Russia. The wheat crop especially is magnificent all along the coasts of the Sea of Azof. From the state of the markets in Western Europe, higher prices and and increased exportation from the Black Sea ports are anticipated. Garibaldi's attack of acute rheumatism in the shoulder has prevented him from taking the field. His son Menotti, who was at Orvieto a few days back, with several Garibaldian officers, has been recalled to Vinci by telegraph, which would seem to indicate that the projects have teen suspended for the present. Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables" has been dramatized for the English stage by Mr. Cla rence Holt. Sir Henry has now his retiring pension, having served twenty years under the Foreign Office, and having no wish, it is understood, to go abroad again. Rabbits have increased in such numbers in Victoria that warrens are now formed in various parts of the country, where good sport is obtained.
