Kirk-bolder, Esq., Foreman of fiLeKapleot BuiIhIo, stating tunt tliey would (leave liull:ilo September 13, and arrive at West Philadelphia at 3 35 P. hi., on Saturday, the 14th. Mr. W. L. Forman, of the Weccacoe Engine Corr pany, ottered a resolution foibtdding any burlesque apparatus being drawn In the line of j roeesFiou. He said siich t tunes have had the.r day, and if continued they might lead to serious consequences, as those who went with tneni streicoeu their play until it became often- sive to many persons. j ue resolution was unanimously adopted. There being no business ready, the Conven tion adjourned for one week, wheu the arrange ments will be perfected. Encounter with a Burglar. On Tuesday evening about 11 o'clock, the private watchman of Curwen Stoddart 4 Co., Nos. 450, 452, and 454 North Second street, noticed three suspicious looking fellows loatlng around the neighbor hood, (razing at the stores, apparently with no especial business. He kept his eyes open for them, and about 3 o'clock yesterday morning he t aw them climbing over the fence on steamer alley, on which a restaurant backs, and which, is parallel with St. John's 6treet. The restau rant has been occupied by Nathan Coombes, and is numbered 432 on North 8econd street. They had entered the place probably by means of nippers, as no marks are observable upon the rt ar door. He quickly found another pri vate watchman, told hiru of what was going on, and left him to watch the place while he went to the Police Station on Third street (the Seventh District) for a patrolman or two, as none could be found on the street roundabout. The man was a bungler, however, and made such a terrible noise and hullaballoo in trying to get out of a gate that the burglars heard the racket and skedaddled, leaving in the yard in the rear of the restaurant their boots and a set of burglar's tools. Coombes bad just sold out, and it is believed that tho burglars imagined there was considerable money iu the house, which would repay them for their trouble and risk. As it Is, they got nothing rather they lost. Distillery Troubles. John W. Barnes, Revenue Inspector in tbe Fifth District, accom panied by several assistants and two police officers, Visited two distilleries on Tuesday, In Salmon street, above William, that were illegally in operation, no licenses having been obtained. Tbe malt and mash In both places, contained In twenty-oue hogsheads, were destroyed, and the still and other machinery placed in a wagon for removal. The inspector then visited a dis tillery at the corner of Ann and William streets lor the purpose ot destroying it, but he was re sisted by parties Inside, who retused to open the doors. While Mr. Barnes was attempting to force an entrance, a crowd of several hundred persons assembled in the street, and while some threw stones at tbe Inspector and his assistants, others took possession of the wagon and ttuew tbe stills and other machinery takcu float the other distilleries in the street. Mr. Barnes, fiua ing it impossible to make any headway against so many who wcto opposed to him. and having been hit several times with bricks, jumped into his wagon and made his escape. New Station Houses. YeBterd ay afternoon the Committee on Police convened for the pur pose of taking further action in relation to the new station house now being erected in the Seventeenth P.ilice District. The district com prises that part of tbe ciiy lyinj; south of South street, aod irom Sixth to Broad streets, and the new station house is being erected on Taylor street (running south ol Dickerson street), west of Ninth. The building will be some 22 by 80 leet in dimensions, and will cost I'JOOO. The first story has been completed by the con tractor, and in a short time it will be ready lor occupancy. A new station houso Is now being built for the Seventh District, including the Eleventh and Twelfth Wards. It will be of more extended ' dimensions than the one now in tbe other dis trict, and will cost over $10,000. It will be lo cated on Pt. John 6treet, below (ireen, in the rear of the old Northern Liberty Hall, and promises to prove a serviceable and substantial building. A Memorial Tablet. The members of the Perseverance Hose Company have a tablet tn their house bearing the following inscription: Tribute of respect to our late fellow-members Andrew Butler and Charles H. Hines, who lost their lives at the fire tn Bread street by the fall ing of the walls of the sugar-house ana brewery on the night of the 21st of August, 1H47." Andrew Butler was for thirty-five years an active and etlicient member of tho Company, and at the time of bis death was Secretary and Treasurer of the Fire Association, which place he tilled lor ten years with much credit to htm relf and advantage to the department. He, like Hines. who fell bv his side, died boloved and respected by all who knew him. Beneath this, encased in a black frame, is a finely-executed likeness of the lamented Presi dent Lincoln, who was elected an honorary member of the Company, and, on being pre sented with a certificate of his election, grate iully acknowledged tbe compliment.
