ROBBERY AT BORDENTOWN.
gVEWNO TKLKGRAM BTECIAL CORBKBPOKIUNCB.
BORDBHTOWN, N. J., AugUfl't 13.
Tbe qntel cltj of Bordentown, N. J., was
tbrown into state of excitement yesterday
afternoon by tbe discovery of 'a most diabolical
attempt at robbery. From wbat we could learn
from thoso conKregatcd around the cell In which
the participants 1 the act were Incarcerated,
we note three particulars, which, though they
may be somewhat colored by the excitement of
the moment, are subBtantlally correct.
It appears that to men father and ton
entered the house of a Mrs. Cassidy and offered
for eale a portion of bogus jewelry, with which
they were abundantly supplied. While Mrs. Cas
ridy was preparing to settlo for the articles she
had oelecied. tue villains ized her and gageed
her forcing a spool of cotton in her throat,
which not only ellectnaliy prevented any out
cry but caused her considerable pain. Tiiey
then secured the money m her powion, and
lett the house. The husband of Mrs. Casldy was
absent at the time, but providentially soon had
occasion to cull at bis home, where ho was sur
prised to s e his wile sullennpt ereat iiRony, and
secured beyond the possibility of releasing her
self. He at once rendered her assistance, and
then started in pursuit of tbe scoundrels He
summoned tbe aid of the authorities, and in a
short time realized tbe satisfaction of witnessing
the arrest of the party, who were at the time
tl ITU red in dividing the spoils. No doubt is ex-

JAVANESE IN A POLICE COURT.
Tbeir Trouble Settled A. Hew Story
Foo-cboo-mati Discharged.
At the police headquarters yesterday, charces
were made against some of the Japanese troupe,
)npplers, and acrobats for embezzling the sum
of $3600 in gold. Three of tbe troupe were
brought belore Inspector Leonsrd. Among
them was little "All Riant," who seemed to
comprehend fully the situation of a II airs, wept
bitterly, and would not be comforted, notwith
standing the efforts of Mr. Leonard, through
the interpreter, Sumprell, to explain that no
harm would be done to any of his friends.
The whole afialr was somewhat confused; but
in order to bring the ease tip for investieatlon,
a wmrant was issued and Foo-cboo-matz was
placed in confinement to appear on examina
tion at tbe Tombs Police Court this morning on
the cbatge ot larceny.
This morning Foo-choo-matz was brought into
couit, looking very much dejected, having
passed a sleepless night, and maintaining that
he was tbe object of a swindle. He was accom
panied by bis nephew, tbe qreat tavorite of the
piop'.e, lling-kee-chec, or little "All Right."
Among tbe witnesses on the part of Foo-chee-matz
were Zoo-shee-kei1, Ohee-f-hau-kee, La-as-kee,
Ohee zah shau, Ai noo schee, Foochoo
chee, I Bsk-cbee, atid Zang kee-cliee, with Mr.
frmiih. Mr. W. C.Traphugen appeared as coun
sel for Foo chee matz.
Tbe real lacta of the case show that the Japa
nese were misrepresented. Mr. Smith stated to
Judpe Hopan that while in Japan last year, be
(mith) made a contract with the Japanese
Government to take Foo-choo-matz, aod several
other Japanese performers on a tour through
the States, ,leaving Japan October 16, and to
return one year from that time October 16,
1867. Smith also said be had adopted Ring-kee-chee.
or "All Riett," an intelligent little
fellow, nine yeais of age, by permission of the
Japanese Government. He arrived ut San
Francisco, a short time after the contract, per
formed there awhile with "All Right" and the
prisoner. Foo-choo-matz, who wai his chosen
leader and most skilful performer, then came to
New York, thence through the Northern States,
and finally to Buffalo, which be left, on Friday
last, and came to Jersey City on Saturday even
ing. He sold out his interest in Foo-choo-matz
and All Right, his best performers, until August
29, to Mr. Maguirc, for tbe sum ot fifteen thou
sand dollars, but limited the time of their en
gagement, as he had stipulated with the Japa
nese Government to return them by October 16,
and he wished to stop their performing, ana
put them under the tuition of a good English
teacher for a month, as they were learning our
language rapidly, particularly little "All Hteht,"
who already can understand almost everything
eaid to him.
Magulra i is said, obtained the signature of
Foo-cnoo matz for an engagement until Febru
ary next, instead of August 20th, for S350O.
When the information came to Foo-choo-matz,
he said he had only made arrangements uutil
August 20th, and wished to return to Japan with
Mr. Smith. Maguire then, made the complaint
of embezzlement against the Japanese for the
recovery of the sum paid.
W ith this explanation, as no evidence was
produced to conflict with it, Judge Hogan dis
charged the prisoner. This announcement was
received with much satisfaction by Foo-choo-
matz; and little "All Right" was very enthusl
a6tic at the result, and wished to communicate
It as soon as possible to Mrs. Smith.
The Japanese company appear intelligent,
and Mr. Smith says that in passing through this
country they have observed everything con
nected with our social life, and are rapidly
adopting our customs. They take a great in
terest in our civil government, and are anxious
to become acquainted with our system ot gov
ernment. They can all write in their own lan
guape, and freely give their autographs to any
person desinnir them.
Little "All Right" is no less remarkable for
his activity of mind and general intellieenee
than for his acrobatic performances, and his
guardian will endeavor to obtain the permission
of the Sovereign of Japan to have the little
fellow educated in this country. N. T, Evening
Post, I'M.
