Stephen Joseph Meany, who wm lately tried for Fenian treason by the Special Commission, was brought into Court before the Judges this morning, and sentenced to fifteen years' imprisonment in a penal oon Tirt prison. ',,' Before the passing of the sentence Mr. Meany delivered a speech to the court, in whtoh he protested, as nn American citizen, against the prosecution as carried on by the Crovrn. He claimed the protection of the United States Government. Mr. Meany denied that he had ever been raid for revolutionary or other .ser vices by the Fenians in America. He in dignantly scouted the "base overtures" made to him in his difficulty by the British Govern ment, the officers of which had asked him to give evidence for iho Queen against the mem bers of the Fenian party just arrested at Dun carvan, in the county of Water ford. The Government also offered him, he said, his liberty in six months, provided he pleaded gnilty to the charges of the indictment, which he, as a man and an American citizen, could not do, knowing that he had not com mitted a crime. On the 18ih Instant, Judge William H. Lyons of Richmond, died of typuntd lover, under an attack of which he had ku lie red tor ubout a month. The Hichmnnd Inquirer sayt,: "Judge Lyons was the son of the lion. Jttmes Lyons, of this city, und whs born in the city of Richmond on the 81st of May, 1!1. In 1847 he entered William and Mary College. After one yo ir ho entered the University of Virginia, where ho continued two annual sessions, taking the academic course, and graduating with the highest honors. A New York National Banking house recently sent out cir culars assessing all the national banks onesix teenth per cent, on their capital, to form a fund to buy up Congress and defeat the opposition of the monopoly. Hhould all the banks respond the fund will amount to over two millions. I have seen the circular, and shall endeavor to furnish you with a copy. Jf. Y. Herald.
