IMPORTANT FACT.?
n 111(11 THE PEOPLE ftllOlLU
" MAKE A NOTE O F.-''
Fact I.-I,TLLTK'S CHILLED-IRON SAFKfl
have been largely Introduced for the last twelve
years, and sold lo those having the largest amount of
vaiusbles, as the best and n.osi iborotighly Burglar
Pioot bale; and, up In the last three years. It has beea
as rare to bear ol one ol Llllle's Sales having beoa
robbed by burglHrs. as to see or hear ot a white
blackbird or a while elephant.
Fact II. It Is notorious that the profession of the
burglar has advanced at a ranld pace within the last
elfchl years, and what was thon uglily burglar-proof
then Is not so now, which accounts lor the I act that
within the last three year very few of Llllle's
Bales have been robbed, and the secret anonymous
circulars distributed by other sale-makers lat
terly, showing atYijK frw cases onlv, la the strongest
evidence Hint b t a very small number have beea
robbed to this time, notw ithstanding the large num
ber lu use, and the amount at stake il successful.
Fact III. There are two, and only two, general
and leading print-Idles upon which all burglar-proof
sales are cunsirueied. The one Is pouring liquid
Iron betw een aud around bars of wrought lreu, hard
en) d streel, or any proper combination of metals.
I bis principle Is adnted hy Llille, lu the C'iillied
Iron Safe, and covered and controlled by his letter
patent.
The other Is made up ol layers of plates, of different
metals, held together by bolls or m em, or both. To
Ibis principle there are various objections The
cost Ik double. The wrought Iron places, which are
I lie strength of the sale, are ouisiile, and are operalwl
upon by the whole catalogue of burglars' tools. Tha
buns or rivets are easily lorced by suitable tools
wlih or without powder, aud cannot be sustained.
The former principle, adopted l y Lhtle, avoids all
these objections, ran be made any thickness, and
w lihstaud any amount of resistance required; avoids
the rivets, bolts, etc: baa no wrought iron oataide lo
be operated upon by burglars' Implements,
Fact IV. Mr. LUlle, the Pa'ettre, so soon as ha
learned that It was posiible with the modern Im
proved tools lor burglars to grind through chilled.
Irou or hardened stet I, b. gan experimenting to avoid
the diUiculty, and alter much labor and expense be
has perlecled a system lor chilling Iron aud combin
ing mews that Is entliely piool against the burglar's
drill, or any other ol his tools, eveu the wedge, war
ranted to stand the hardest test practicable lor any
burglar to make. As a i roof of his success, the fol
lowing certiiicate Is now ottered lrom tne Novelty
Works, New York:
Ojrrica Novelty Iron Wokkh,
t , Tyli N"w fKK, lsth December, 1866.
Mritrt. Zrv-ft LUUe. A Htm,-
Gknti.kmkn: We have subjected the sample of
Chilled Iron yon furnished us to the most severe testa
(as regards dillllng through it) that we could bring to
beer upon It. and without success.
It Is our opinion that It can only be penetrated by
the use ot a large number or drills, and the expendi
ture ol much power, with days of time.
And we mink it Impossible lor a burglar, with hi
time and power, to penetrate it at alL
Y ours truly,
Isaac V. Hor.MKs. Superintendent.
Lyman G. IUii., Foreman.
And the following extensive lion manufacturers let
Philadelphia, Boston, and Chicago, alter the most
thorough tests, hud the result lo be substantially tha
same.
Aud their principal Iron Workers so certify:
Messrs. Merrick A bon, South w ark Foundry, Phila
delphia. The Flnkley A Williams Works, Bonton, Mass,
The Union Foundry and the Northwestern Foun
dry, Chicago, 111,
Fact V. The proposition made the publlo hereto
fore Is now renewed : 1 will furnish Safes or Vault
Doors, of same size and capacity ol other best makers,
aud at one-third less price; and the same may be
tested when finlBbed, and I will furnish tne man to
test the work of any other maker, and be shall fur
nish the man lo test my work ; and the party so order
ing may accept the work which stands the most re
sistance, lu any way or manner practicable for a burglar
to work.
Fact VI. I would now say to any of the owners of
Llllle's Sales, that. In view of the preceding facta, UT
they feel the need of additional security, I will ex
change with them, ou tuir terms, giving them all Hie
late Improvements, and the incieased security, whlcsi
Is claimed to be beyond the reach ot Ruiglars, until
some new system shall be developed In the working;
ol Iron, which would now seem hardly possible.
Fact Vii. It Is true that the Sheet-Iron or commoa
Saie, as now made, under ordinary circumstances
(and when not crushed by the tali ot walls or Umbers)
usually saves the written matter, but If toe fire is se
vere it has to be copied, for the Ink will soon fade out:
besides, the safe Is twisted up aud useless.
Itls equally true that the Chllled-lron Bare sares
the written matter In a perlect state, that Ii does not
fade out or require copying, and that the sale Itself
Is ready for further use. Any number or trials la
fires, certified to, prove these lacts, and If any of ths
sale venders who aie distributing secret, anouytnoua
circulars to injure the reputation of LILLIE'S SAFE,
are not satisfied with these statements, ihey can hay
the opportunity ot leatlug by tire one of their own
bares w lih i LILLIE'S, on equal terms, whenever
they so decide.
I act VIII. In answer to the story circulated br
Interested parties, that Llllle's Sale had goue up, an4
had ruined Lillle, etc., 1 would say that al no lime la
the last two years could LllueASun hall supply the
demand lot Sfes, aud were under the necessity f
loimlug a large stock company, with a very large
capital, to meet ihe demand; aud Mr. Lewis Lillie, Sr .
is now the president ol thai company, which Is located
on the Delaware, iu Pennsylvania, near Easton, and
Is the largest Sale Works probably In existence, aud
will be able to supply all demands for bales. Looks
Chllled-lron Vaults, etc. ".
In conclusion, 1 beg to call the attention of my
pun one uud friends, and the public, lu the tacts here
piebenteu, and to say Unit 1 am very tbanklul for
nasi lavors. and that I am prepared to furnish LIL
LIE'S BURGLAR AND FIRE AND BURGLAR
PROOF bAlES, VAULT DOORS, CHILLEO IRON
VAULTS and COM BIN ATTN N LOCKS, allaiahort
notice, warranted to be the best and cheapest 1st
market, I also keep constantly a large assortment
ol second-hand File Prools, taken lu exchange for
