Drowsed An unknown white man, aged
fifty year, five feet feveu inches high, with
brown hair and short erey whiskers, and wear
in? grey pants and dark cloth vett, and lonir
boots, was found yenttrday at Arch street
wuart. The following receipts were lound on
bis person: One in the name of Walter Kld
ridge, for work for the sloop Colonel May,
at?d August 21. 18GC; aLo one to Thoraa
Llake, dated October 13, 18G0; and also an
order for a bowsprit of the Moop Colonel May,
Blne4 J. H. llotlman. Xhe Coroner took
charge ot the body.
Orr for a Crcish. The revenue-cntter
Active left the Navy Yard on Saturday for her
new station off the coast ol Massachusetts. The
Active is a beautiful vessel, and is splendidly
fitted out. She is l!)0 fiet in length, 20 teet
beam, and 12 feet hold. Tho vessel is a very
creditable SDeclmen of Philadelphia workman
ship. Tbe lolloping is a list of the orlicers of
the Actives Captain Feueitr, First Lieutenant
Spat rejl. Second Lieutenant llealy, Third Lieu
tenant Charlton.
Improvements. The work of grading Susque
hanna avenue, ftom Seventh to Franklin
stieet, and Franklin, from Susquehanna avenue
to Diamond 6treet, and Diamond, from Seventh
Jo Tenth street, was commenced yesterday.
This improvement is much needed, for the pur
pose of facilitating the building operations now
BOingonm that vicinity. About 150 dwelling
houses have been contracted for on the streets
named above.
A Burglarious Vimit to Ciiesndt Hill.
The residences of M. Russell Thaver and tlenry
W. Bowen, situated on Summit street, Che3nut
Hill, were entered by burglars on Friday night,
and several articles were stolen. The demand
lor an increased police force in this locality is
Imperative, and the proper authorities should
at ence take measures to protect the citizens
there from the depredations of the burlars
that infest the place.
Commendable. The German Cabinet Ma
kers' Kelief Associations held a meeting on
Saturday last t devise means for the aid of the
families of these who were killed at the late
boiler explosion. The Associations donated one
hundred dollars to each family of their deceased
members, and resolved to make a general col
lection in aid of all the fwrniiies. A committee
of eighteen was appointed for this purpose.
The Hat Market. During the past week
675 loads of hay and 59 of s'raw were weighed
and sold at the Farmers' Hay Market, North
Seventh slreet. The prices declined since the
last quotations. Best quality Timothy Hay
sold at $1"7601"8O per 100 pounds; mixed at
$1'661'C0. Straw sold at $r66rG9 per 100
pounds.
Thb Murder op Colonel Riddle. After an
examination before the Coroner on Saturday
afternoon, the jury rendered a verdict that the
deceased csme to his death from blows inflicted
by flornkeitb, and that the jury find John Culp
accessory to the fact. The latter has not been
arrested.

New Chesnut Street Theatbe. The net pro
ceeds of tbe performance this evening are to
be devoted to the relief of the sutl'erers by the
recent explosion in Sansom street. Cendrilton

cause, we feel confident that the theatre will be
crowded to its utmost capacity. Every person
-who frequents a place ot amusement should
make it a duty to purchase a ticket this even
ing for the New Chesnut btreet Theatre. (Jen

On riday evening, Mr. Walter Lennox, the
low comedian of the establishment, announces
his benefit.
Arch Street Theatre Little Boy Blue. Mr.
Fox's new pantomime continues to grow in
favor, and will be played alt the week. The
tricks are more wonderful than any yet per
formed in this eAtv. l'De scenery is vegy pretty,
aud the action of the Foxes is admirable and
very funny. The base-ball act by the "Muflins
Clnb" is exceedingly well managed, and excites
the nsibles of the most stolid beholder. On
Friday Mr. G. L. Fox takes a benefit. Little Boy
Blue matinee on Saturday afternoon.
Waij)ut Street Theatre. Mr. Joseph Jef
ferson continaes bis eneueement through the
present week. Jlip Van Winhe will be played
every night. MLs Susan Deuiu will support
Jlr, Jeflerson as "UretctK'n."
Americas Variety Thsatre. The proprietor
of tbe American Variety Theatre, Mr. Hobert
Fox intends to devote the entire receipts of
that establishment next Friday evening to.the
relief ot the eufterers by the recent boiler ex
plosion. The company have consented to volun
teer their services on that occasion, and doubt
lees a hatidsome sum will be roalized. This
theatre Is the most prosperous place of amuse
ment in Philadelphia at the present time, and
the mammoth combination affords a most attrac
tive evening's entertainment.
Carncrobs & DiiEV, at the Eleventh Street
Opera House, have good hou?es, and present
each evening an excellent entertainment of
Ethiopian diversions.
Assembly Buildings. This Is the last week

The illuminating apparatus Is dioptric, or by lenses
ot the tourth order.
The focal plane Is at an elevation of sixty-four feet
above the level of tbe sea, making the light visible,
under ordinary circumstances, from a distance ot
twelve nautical miles.
The tower is of brick, natural color.
