H. llotlman. Xhe Coroner took charge ot the body. Orr for a Crcish. The revenue-cntter Active left the Navy Yard on Saturday for her new station off the coast ol Massachusetts. The Active is a beautiful vessel, and is splendidly fitted out. She is l!)0 fiet in length, 20 teet beam, and 12 feet hold. Tho vessel is a very creditable SDeclmen of Philadelphia workman ship. The work of grading Susque hanna avenue, ftom Seventh to Franklin stieet, and Franklin, from Susquehanna avenue to Diamond 6treet, and Diamond, from Seventh Jo Tenth street, was commenced yesterday. This improvement is much needed, for the pur pose of facilitating the building operations now BOingonm that vicinity. About 150 dwelling houses have been contracted for on the streets named above. A Burglarious Vimit to Ciiesndt Hill. The residences of M. Russell Thaver and tlenry W. Bowen, situated on Summit street, Che3nut Hill, were entered by burglars on Friday night, and several articles were stolen. The demand lor an increased police force in this locality is Imperative, and the proper authorities should at ence take measures to protect the citizens there from the depredations of the burlars that infest the place. Commendable. The German Cabinet Ma kers' Kelief Associations held a meeting on Saturday last t devise means for the aid of the families of these who were killed at the late boiler explosion. The Associations donated one hundred dollars to each family of their deceased members, and resolved to make a general col lection in aid of all the fwrniiies. A committee of eighteen was appointed for this purpose. The Hat Market. During the past week 675 loads of hay and 59 of s'raw were weighed and sold at the Farmers' Hay Market, North Seventh slreet. The prices declined since the last quotations. Best quality Timothy Hay sold at $1"7601"8O per 100 pounds; mixed at $1'661'C0. Straw sold at $r66rG9 per 100 pounds. Thb Murder op Colonel Riddle. After an examination before the Coroner on Saturday afternoon, the jury rendered a verdict that the deceased csme to his death from blows inflicted by flornkeitb, and that the jury find John Culp accessory to the fact. The proprietor of tbe American Variety Theatre, Mr. Hobert Fox intends to devote the entire receipts of that establishment next Friday evening to.the relief ot the eufterers by the recent boiler ex plosion. The company have consented to volun teer their services on that occasion, and doubt lees a hatidsome sum will be roalized. This theatre Is the most prosperous place of amuse ment in Philadelphia at the present time, and the mammoth combination affords a most attrac tive evening's entertainment.
