fairly sets In.
There has been a marked Improvement here
since the last season. Several beautiful and
costly cottages have beon completed, and a

two very pretty cottages on the other side of the
same ttreet. They are tasteiully oruamentod,
and attract much attention. Dr. Uouriionville,
of Philadelphia, is putting up an expensive cot
tage, but it will not be Hu Is tied this season.
Among the most conspicuous and important
Improvement of the season are three collages
now being erected by Mr. B. 1). Button, nrcui
tect. They are located ou a wide street, Just
opened on the Columbia House property. Tney
are not excelled for comfort aud the modern
improvements by any cottages on the iHlftud.
Xhey are arranged in such a, manner that a
view ol the ocean can be obtained from each
room. They are of the SwUs style of architec
ture, with porches extending on three sides
of the parlor. The exterior and interior
finishings are very neat, and the three will be
finished to harmonize with each other. They
are owned by Messrs. Warue, Harrison, and
Morris, merchants, f Philadelphia, who expect
to move into them about the l&ili of June. The
trustees of the Kpisoopul Church have laid a
substantial foundation lor their new building.
When completed, it will be a very beautiful
building. It is in contemplation to put up
several more new cottHges as soou as the season
is over. The Island bids fair, in the course of
five or six yeais, to outstrip Long Branch, and
no douht will do bo, in consequence of the dan
gerous bathing at that place.
The hotel at Diamond Beach Is rapidly ap
proaching completion, and the three-quurler
mile track will be finished in the eurly part of
July. The Association la chartered ana or
ganized under the title of tho "Diamond Beach

notice the names of George Howell, John Davis,
.Lewis Cooper, and Thomas T. Tat, leer. The
grounds embrace one hundred and twenty
three acres, located on a high bluff, overlooking
the bay for miles. It is intended to make it a
pleasant resort for the respectable sojourners
on the Island.
Mark Hassler has been here tuning up bis
Instruments for the coming season. It is
hinted that he will have charge of both the
band at the Columbia House aud the band at
Congress Hall. He intends to inaugurate a
new series of "Hops," and give some highly
fashionable musical entertainments.
"Whereshail we go this summer?" is a ques
tion very olten asked, and echo answers to
Cape Island, as it will be only two aud a half
hours' ride lroui the city when the season fairly
opens.
An Improvement might be made in the man
agement of the railroad depot here, which
would not do any harm to the travelling com
munity. THE' PENNSYLVANIA RESERVES.
INTERESTING MEETING OF THB SURVIVORS AT HAR
BISBORO. Habrisburo, Pa., May 31. Yesterday
morning, the first annual meeting of the
"Pennsylvania Reserve Association" was held
in the hall of the House of Representatives.
In the absence oi ex-Governor Curtin, the
President, and General II. G. Sickel, the Vice
President of the Association, ' Major-General
S. W. Crawford was called upon to preside.
At the morning session, Governor Geary,
General John F. Hartranft, and General James
11. Campbell were elected honorary members;
and at the afternoon session, a similar honor
was conferred upon Generals Knipe, Jordan
and "Williams, Major L. 8. Hart and John
Gotahall, and Captain Riohard T. Stewart and
"William B. Hart.
The constitution whioh had been proposed
at the January meeting was then adopted,
after slight modifications, and it was resolved
to hold the next meeting of the Association at
Pittsburg, on the oOth of May, 1808. An in-
cresting address was then delivered by Gene
ral William H. McCandless, who was received,
and frequently interrupted, with hearty ap
plause. An election for Directors was held, the fol
lowing Philadelphians being chosen among
the rest: General McCandless, General Ho
ratio G. Sickel, Colonel John Clark, Major Dick
Ellis, Captain Timothy Meally, and Captain J.
M. Blundin.
Previous to the adjournment, several tele
grams were received and read, among them
the following from General Meade:

After the adjournment a meeting of the Di
rectors was held lor the election of permanent
officers, the old Board being reelected, with
the exception of the Vice-President. The fol
lowing are the officers for the ensuing year:

Secretary Major J. C. Harvey; Corresponding
Secretary, Colonel John U. Taggart; Treasurer,
Colonel J. P. Taylor.
At 10 o'clock last evening the pleasing gath
ering of these old companions in arms was
terminated by a banquet, at which about one
hundred of them were present. General Craw
ford presided, and the whole affair passed off
with great telat.
