Enough tbat under 1'rovldence we lultii our lJatw-citiiensUlp witk the human raco: that we end-.-CTr to build "not fume, but godlike souls." Why should our Ideal of youth be fe versa with tbe appetite tor reward, and lose a noble self-possession? "hay not that t'wsar was victorious, With toil and strife who stormed the house of fame. In otber sense this youth was glorious, Himseir a Kingaom wiiereeoeveme came. - It is a trite Baving. that we must Hud in our own beans true sovereignly and reward; but It renews Itself with vivid truth. I" "nuimoi must build serene empire. Wealth and love and science and beautv, distilled tniougn tne aiemnic oi suiieriug, yield us but one final tieasure simplicity. Here then, is tbe solvent or a true lite. Friends, we may not be great or rich, but let us endeavor to be slm lie. to be true. Do you remember the kind, good Thackeray's prayer, "Be eacb, pray Uod, ageutle man"? With such thoughts let us faithfully serve our destiny and our ftllow men, feeling that the world is our nome ana uon our intner. At 2 o'clock this afternoon ine annnui uinaer of the Alumni is given.
