The Loard then went Into an election to fill a
vacancy in the Medical Board, and after twenty
five unsuccessful ballots, the matter was post
poned until the next nieetiui.
The Steward's requisition was then read, and
granted, alter which the, Hoard adjourned.
Severf.ly Burned. About 7 o'clock yester
day morning, a man named David 1'ickel, while
working at a puddling furnace at erreo fc
Mitchell's rollitii; mill, on Delaware avenue,
near Poplar street, had his lace severely burned
by an explosion ot (jas. It Is supposed he will
lose the sight of both eyes, lie was removed to
an intirraary in the ambulaucc belonging to tho
Good Intent Knctne Company.
The New City Loan. The ordinance cre
atine a loan of $l,b()0,()()0, to pay deHcicncles of
i8(! and previous years, tor the purctue of
the Lansuown Estate lor a House of Correc
tion, and to pay tho increase in tho school
teachers' salaries, has been approved by the
Major, and is now a law.
Paving Streets. Tho following-named
streets will soon be paved at the expense ol
property owners: Gaul street, from Hunting
don to Norris streets; A ram in no street, from
Bepviva to Gaul street; Letterly 6treet, from
Coral to Emerald streets and Jones Btreet, west
ward trom Twentieth street. The streets, when
paved, ore to be kept in order for three years by
the contractors.
CAMDEN AFFAIRS.
Meeting ok Councils. A special meeting of
Councils was held last evening, President lien
jamin p. Archer in the chair.
A petition was received from a number of
property owners on Market street, requesting
Councils to require the construction of a brick
culvert four fept in diameter along said street,
from the east side of Front street westward to
the river Delaware, and provide for inlets at the
east side ot Front street, and an outlet at some
point between Market and Plum streets. Re
ferred to the Committee on Ordinance, with
instructions to prepare au ordinance.
Mr. Knight (North Ward) otlered the follow
ing resolution:
Resolved, That a committee be appointed,
according to law, to appraise damaees, if any,
that may result from the opening ot Delaware
street, running south from Market street.
Mr. Lee (Middle Ward) amended by inserting
the names of the Committee appointed to ap
praise the damages resulting from the opening
of Front street. The resolution as amended
was adopted.
Mr. Hood (South Ward) offered the follow
ing: Jieaolttd, That the Finance Committee be, and
are hereby instructed to advertise for proposals
to a loan authorized by tho Ordnance Commit
tee, entitled "An ordinance tor borrowing tbe
sum of $30,000," in accordance with the act ot
the Legislature of the Slate of New Jersey,
entitled "An Act to authorize the City Councils
cf the City of Camden to raise by loan a sum
not exceeding $20,000 for the purpose of erect
ing and furnishing a new school House in the
Middle Ward of the said City ot Camden," ap
proved March 13, 186(5, and a supplement to
baid act authorizing the said City Councils to
nine an additional sum of $10,000, approved A.
D. 1867. Agreed to.
Also the following:
Mesohed, That the petition of A. W. Marclay,
on behalt of the Camden and Amboy Hail
road and Transportation Ccmpany, be referred
to a special committee, of three.
The President appointed Messrs. flood, Moul
ton. and Merrtwether as the committee.
This petition was presented at the last meet
ing of Councils, and refers to the abandonment
of Bridge avenue, below Second street, by the
city as a public thoroughfare.
Hearing. Pat Callahan and John Toby,
who were arrested for riot on Sunday, the par
ticulars of which were given in yesterday's
Telegram, had a hearine before Mayor Cox
yesterday afternoon. Callahan was committed
In default of $5000 bail and Toby in $2000 bail.
Fredeiick Munter and John Flaniganbave been
arrested, charged with beine implicated in the
affair. They were each held in $500 bail lor
their appearance at Court.
Accident. Purnel Tatem, a breaksman in
the employ of the Camden and Amboy Kailroad
Con pany, met with an accident last evening.
At Burlimrion the locomotive was making a
'flvini? drill." and he fell off the platform and
underneath the cars. Several of them passed
over him, nearly cuttinc off his leg just below
thp. knee. It is thouuht amputation will be
necessary.
Stolb a IIokkk. John Devlin waa arrested
by Constable Hawkins for stealing; a horse from
Barbara Cramps' fishery, below Gloucester. He
drove the horse to this city, and lett it in charge
of a boy, and then went over to Philadelphia.

he returned secured him. He was lodged in
Woodbury jail.
Stole Some Rope. Abner Wallace was
arrested yesterday by Constable Hawkins for

Justice Cassidy required him to enter bonds in
