Tke first of the official con-c-rta ot the season wait sivou this day week oy Comte WalewsKi at the Corps LegiHlatif, in honor 01 the young Prince's blrtrutuy. All the amb'-8B(lors, the diplomatic corps, anil mem bers boih of the rlht and Intt (which denomi nation Mirnitips einpiro and opvooitlon), lelt it a duty and pleamiru to accept the invitation 01 the President ot Parliament. Gustavo Dorc, the painter, was seen in close conversation with the Dune do Mouchy and Muetapha Pasha with tta Apostolic Nuncio. The arranuement of the Interior of the galene ties fiirs was entirely novel, two raws of reserved eats beine placed In the centre of the brilliantly illuminated hall. Thee were occupied by l idies in the ricuc.-t toileis, the eentlcmfi) being seafeft nil around In a circle, and did not look unlike a dark border round a parterre ot flowers, every woman boinp of course the loveliest. Xbe orchestra formed a vast amphitheatre in the midst of an artificial prove. About 10 o'clock Princes' Clothilde entered n Comte WalewsKi's arm. Hhe wore ft white moire robe, of which the body was half white and half pink. Tucne parti colored bodices are aettine very lashioimble. Some end. In a b.w umne on one side llowinp off in a point. M. Pasdeloup led the orchestra. M'uie Miolan CarvuHio cave Aubcr's air d'Action and t,ou noa's Valne de Mireille. Zucchini w h quite as fcuccesHlul. A bouquet ol Parma violets was preentcd to M'me Carvalho, in the centra of which stuod out a laree M. in white. The. ini l4al was intended lor Miolan aud Margueilte (Faust'."). Monday, the 13th, a irrand concert was siveu by the Emperor and Empre-s at the Tuiicries. "Enfrac" was printed at the bottom of the in vitation card.. Tnis meant tliat silk stockings, short pantalonns, and either black or blm' cloth cjats were to be worn Instead of uniforms. Every seat had its appointed place, every rank of noblesse its particular row. At 'J the Emperor and Empress entered the Salle dca Marechaux, and the concert beerati. Between each part they rose and congratulated tbe artists, who were M'me (Jalli Alane, M'me Cabel, tHinte Foy, M. Bataille, M. Capoul, and M. Alard. When the concert was over tbey thanked the artiste again, and entered the sa'on ot tbe Premier Consul, where all the guests were assembled iu a luige circle, round which the Empress walked, speaking to each In turn, or when she had nothing to eny she smiled recog nition, or otherwise gracefully acknowledged the pretence ol all. The following were the most a Inured toileU: A white pros gifiiu brocaded with luchsias; the pUtil of each flower ended in a red pparl. The style was a I'empne, the bodice cut square; luchsias and pearls in the hair, ruby und diamond fuchsias in the eats. Another was made of maize-colored satin, covered with tulle, of which the puffs were divided with foreec-me nots, in the heart of each a glittering diamoud. The same was made of white satin, and tne pulls divided with long chaplets ot moss roses. The richet toilet was a pink satin; round the bottom ot tbe train fell a flounce it Aleucon; tbe bodice was a peplura, eudmg with pearls, and the headdress was of pearl. A marquise wore light grey satin, over which a Chantilly tunic, looped up with grenade-. Her jet-black hair was plaited and dressed with diamonds. The other great event of the week is the per formance at the Gymnase of Alexandre Dumas, Jr.'s, new piece, tbe Ideas of Madame Aubray. The Emperor and Empress were present, con sequently ''lout Porta." The author himself was nowhere visible, taoueh lorgnettes searched out every dark corner; but the father of the hero ol that evening. Alexandre Dumas himself, was radi'int in the front box on the secoud tier. Madame Aubtay's Ideas met with such success that all the theatres will certainly produce Ileus with a slight variation of title. The pre. Host l.lie bonnets were noticed in all the dress boxes. One looked very attractive, I thought, on a wondering tair head of curls. It was made of rosy pink with a diadem of elder berries In front, and the tulle strings were tau tened under a moss rose. Then there was a white crape bonnet, with hop blossoms of the most delicate verdure, and for the first time 1 saw azalias and other open flower9 made of small jet bugle beads, There is a peculiar ambre mat bead which is not bright but milky looking, ami it looks very eleg int as ball fringe over scarlet velvet trimmings witu straw. Before I leave the hat department I must com municate to your readers a fear that I entertain, and which will meet with their sympathy, namely, that bonnets are ceasing to be a useful institution. I have stood up for them as Ion? a I could, but now there is nothing left to stand av for. When crowns were abolished I approved, lor what was the use of a crown on the b'teK. of one's bead? When curtains were curtailed I rejoiced; when pokes were anathemati.ed I applauded, and when nothing was left but a pair of springs I saw no great evil either; bit now that strings are being cast aside, bebiud, and petting shorter and narrower every coining morn, 1 ask can a learned counsel defend a client who has not any substance? Our spring costumes will be cut into every possible shape over pleated under petticoat-". Some will be tied, towel fashion, behind; o'.hers will be fringed round: dented, notched, cat in squares; ctosb cut stripes of silk will be much used for trimming. We are still wearing velvet and fur, tor the weather is very cold ; but all the summer mohairs are out in windows. , Grey is the favorite color as yet. There is a new necktie, called the cravat neck lace a bead lace invention, with ends in front, but a plain piece of velvet, with a jet bund fringe, is just as pretty. Jet necklaces are made deep in front, and diminish in depth as they go off behind. They look very prettv, with a belt to match, over white muslin. These jet belts are also made like pepiuius, in long points on euch side. JV. 1. Derald. The Uible on Divorce. Some time since we stated in Tue Eveni.no Telegrai'H tliat the police force were about engaging in the labor of enumerating the youth of both sexes, between the ages of six and eighteen. This task lias been performed by them, iu accordance with instructionslaid down by lidward Shippen, Esq., the President of the Hoard of School Controllers, by whom the necessary blanks were prepared. The enumeration is now complete, and this after noon we present it to the public in the accom panying tables. An examination will show how thorough it has been; aud we have reason to believe, from the carefulness exhi bited by the officers in gathering their infor mation, that it is essentially correct. The children enumerated include those only who are between the ages of six and eighteen, which ha been found to be about 18 per cent, of the entire population. This would render the present aggregate population of the city of Philadelphia at least 7S4,dOO. The Board of Control now have at hand a reliable basis on which to establish their work. Knowing the precise number of children in each sec tion of the city, and their classification by age, sex, and employment, it will be easy for them to ascertain whether the facilities offered by the schools under their general supervi sion are at all equal to the demand. The mere fact that there are in the city at the present time over twenty thousand children between the ages of six and eighteen full fourteen and a half per cent, of the entire number who are neither in attend ance upon any school nor engaged in any kind of regular employment, shows that there is au ample field for labor still left open. A largo number of these, as a matter of course, are to be set down in the list of invalids, or as absent from the city for the express pu rpose of receiving a liberal education; but we think both these classes will be found to embrace but a small minority of those included in the twenty thousand in question. The Board of Control, however, have at their disposal an immense sum of money lor the erection of new school-houses, aud about half-a-dozen are al ready under way. mat tne work will be pushed forward on these aud many others already projected we have no doubt ; more especially as the Board itself has recently undergone a radical reformation, the appointment of its members by a late act of the Legislature hav ing been taken out ot the hands of petty poli ticians, and lodged with the responsible and unpartisan judges of our city courts.
