Sealed Proposals invited aud will be received
at this olllce until MONDAY, at 12 o'clock M.,
April 13, lsb7, for the delivery in the city of Bal
timore of one hundred (100) Cavalry Horses.
The Horses will be subjected to careful in
spection beiore being accepted. They must be
sound in all respects, well broken, lu full llesu
and good condition, from fifteen to sixteen
hands hlgh.lrom five to nine years old, -well
adapted in everyway for cavalry purposes.
The ability of the bidder to fulfil his agree
ment must be guaranteed by two responsible
persons, which guarantee must accompany the
proposal.
The ;llorses must be delivered within twenty
(20) days from date of acceptance of any pro
posal The Government reserves the right to reject
any or all bids. Payment to be made on com
pletion of contract.

Of Instruction to the Mayor and City
Directors of the Pennsylvania Railroad Com
pany, W herco", The Board of Directors of the Penn
sylvania Hallrond Company submitted the fol
lowing resolution to the Stockholders of the
inld Company, at tholr annual meetliiB on the
nineteenth day of February last, to wit:
Resolved, That for the purpose of consoli
dating tho bonded and other indebtedness of
the Pennsylvania Kullroid Company, and to
raise Hinds to meet the annual demands upon
the treasury of the Company for new tracks,
additional equipment, enlargement of depots,
extensions of sidings, and to meet tho legiti
mate demands ol the trafllu of the country
dialnrd by tlie road of said Company nnd its
branches, lor increased railroad aceoinmotiii
tlons, nnd also to preserve the proper relations
between the shares, capital, and debts of tho
Company, the following financial programme

First. That the bonds of the Pennsylvania
Hull road Company, secured by the first and
second mortgages, and those due the Common

time upon the whole or such portion of tho

Whereas, The great uecosity for the erection
of a House of Correction requires at the hands
of the Councils of the City the adoption of all
measures directed to the immediate prosecution

When as, The present crowded condition of
the Philadelphia County Prison has compelled
the placing ol three or more prisoners lu cells
oriizinallv constructed for but one persou. thus
not only abandoning t liesystem of separate and

but sacrificing the health ol the inmates, and
threatening, continually, the development

W hereas. In Ihe judgment of the Board of
Prison Inspectors, and of the Councils of the
City, the lot of giound known as the Parade
Ground, from its location. Immediately in the
rear of ihe County Prison, and from its distance
from present improvements, affords the Oest
and cheapestslte for the much needed House of
Correction, or ior tne extension ot 1110 county
Prison, with the additional advantage that
when these, or either of them, shall bo com
pleted, the control of them can bo placed In
charge of those now managing tho County

for damages against the city, and by which all
litigation was settled, ut the time, to the satis

amounts of money were paid to those who could
establish their claims under said act;
