OF THE

NATIONAL VARIED
EX Til A AX X 0 UN CEMENT!
Wishing to lay before our readers in advance
cf the official announcement a full account of
the closing of the "National Varieties," at
the Capitol Garden, Washington, we herewith
print a copy of the bill prepared for that event,
kindly furnished to us by Mr. Defrees, printer
to the concern:
It is proposed soon to close the House for
the summer vacation, and it is the object of
the Stock Company to go out with a blaze of
glory, as it is the purpose of many of the
actors to "star" it throughout the country the
coming summer. The play now running on
the "boards," entitled "Reconstruction," is
drawing good houses, and it is to run for a
few days longer, when it will be withdrawn to
bring in as a "closing bumper" a New Hay,
written expressly for this occasion by Mr. Fer
nando Wood, of New York. Herewith we
give a copy of the bill:

WASHINGTON, D. C.
The Management, in returning thanks to the
Fporting public for tho very liberal patronage
bestowed upon their House the past winter,
take this opportunity to announce that, pre
viously to closing their Establishment for the
Season, there will be brought on the boards
an entirely new series of Entertainments be-
litting the occasion, written by a gentleman of
the New York Press.
The House having been entirely refitted and
Tefurnkhed with pens, pencils, and penknives
at the commencement of the season, it is now
one of the most
comfortable places ok amusement
in this city.

After the performance of Moses, there will
be other entertainments of a highly varied,
amusing, and moral character. Of the great
number of these feats we have space only to
enumerate a few. '
TERFOliMANCES IN TIIE RING.
A celebrated bare-back rider will jump
through a ring covered all over with "acts of
Congress," and with a single summerset land
on the other side on his trained pony "Veto."
This daring feat never fails to bring down the
J louse.
Baue-Back Rider Mr. Johnson
The great Yankee "All Right" will put
himself in a bottle, and cork himself up. This
is a most amuwug feat, never before attempted
out of Japan.

WAXTK1J A FEW GENTEEL BOARDERS.
To the Editor of the Evening Telegraph:
Knowing your will to benefit the worthy youth
of our city, 1 give you an excellent opportunity
hy permitting you to recommend to me those
you think deserving of the comforts of a home.
Our house is too larcre for us: and it may as
well bo lillud, as I do not mind work; but my
cuiei reason lor taking boarders is, that there
are so many obliged to endure the cold com-
fort of boarding-houses and hotels. i
ITT J
vve aie genteel people. The rest of the
family think it a great sacrifice on my part to
do so much for strangers. My charges are the
same as those of first-class boarding-houses.
notwithstanding the home comforts make it
worth twice as much. . .
I have been much troubled by havlne
boarders unworthy of the hospitalities they
have enjoyed. 1 shall tell you a fw of my
troubles, that you may be sure not to send any
likely to commit the same errors. I have
been obliged to turn off some, while others
have lecn so ungrateful as to leave without
giving a day's notice, or even a reason for
going. I mnst have my house full.
I have one boarder who burns gas till 10,
and sometimes even later. This is insuffera
ble. My rules require "gas out at nine."
Another lights his gas early in the morn
ings. This is insufferable.
Still worse, there are three who stay in the
house frequently all the evening. This is in
sufferable, as our family till the sitting-room,
and they cannot endure the restraint of a
stranger's presence.
Our boarders have the privilege of staying
out as late as they wish each is provided
with a key, which ho uses as freely as if in his
own house. The above mentioned I shall turn
off as soon as I can fill their rooms.
Another had the insolence to ask for "coffee
made of coffee," for which he would pay extra.
I immediately invited Aim to leave even
though he had paid some weeks in advance.
Of course, ho meant to be insolent when he
took that mode of keeping his position in our
happy home. To think of a man telling mc,
how to cook in my own house 1 I might as
well havo lady boarders as sutler that.
One gentleman imagined he had a cold, and
wanted fire in his room. I parted with him,
telling him a hotel was the place for a man
that must keep his room, and have his visitors
rushing up stairs two and three in an evening.
Our carpets are too nice for such abuse. So
his room is vacant.
A few havo learned after much hinting
from different members of the family to dis
appear immediately after tea, and to slip
quietly into the houso when they come home.
They have also learned at last not to sit long
at table, nor help themselves twice to butter.
They also appear at table punctually, or do
not come at all, there being plenty of restau
rants in the neighborhood.
My rules require "all those who arc not on the
spot in five minutes after bill ringing, to defir
apptaring at table till tu.rt 7i."
By remembering my request you will do
much good to young men, and also put doing
good in the power of your subscriber.
