A Spicy Letter,
O.cueral Brisoin lately made an official 6tat
invnt that the enrolling olti:crs had great iltlli
culty in ascertaining the, paternity of colored
olri'iere. Upon this the Lomsville (Ky).
C'ouiT,comaieutel in severe terms, pronouue
itir it an insult to the people of Kentucky, and
becoming very personal to the Oencral himself.
Tue result is a letter to the Cincinnati (Ohio)
Gazette, which concludee. as lollows:
"I never wilfully insulted any of them, but if
'a statement of tacts itisulis them, lain not re
Hponeible; they should mend their habits. And
what it' 1 h.bnula occasionally insult, the Rebel

and Ktibordiuate ollicers, but the ladies ot our
families, have been repeatedly and outrage

a better man or purer patriot does not live.
And yet the fellow talks about insulting; people!

kill them if I can. I am warned to leave the

tection ol ray commission in the army I may
stay.' Hfteen hundred loyal men have been
murdered in the South since the close of the
war, and I am well aware that it I were a citi

at Washington, and contains twenty-even
fights and three wounds to my credit. It Is a
matter of no concern to me whether the Rebels

three years have been heaped upon me by the
Rebel journals of Kentucky I have never before
replied a word; but, lest some good people
should believe I was one-half as bad a the

it proper to say this nitich.
