An Earthquake tn the Ionian lu.
Atrrices from Corfu report that an earthquake
las devastated the Islands of Ithaca and Cepha
lonia. The towns of Apostoli and Lixuri In the
latter island are in ruins. Many villages have
been totally destroyed. The number of killed
and wounded has not yet been ascertained. The
inhabitants are now hying In wooden barracks
hastily constructed lrom the ruins ot their
bouses.. The chips in the offing have takea on
hoard as many as they could, Urcpt suffering
exists in all the devastated districts. The first
abock was felt on the 3d of last month, about 6
o'clock in the mornintr. It was felt simulta
iieously in Patras, Ithaca, Cephalonia, Paxo,
Ul a 11 1 several other places. Oscillation
cenrred at Cephalonia on the 6th, of sufficient
jorcejo overthrow the few houses yet standing.
