j arraigned before Alderman Beitler on Friday
morning, charged with the larceny as bailee of
k ,". ol a life insurance policy, the property of Mrs.
Sarah Ann Boehun. The latter employed Dun-
' pan, some eight weeks since, to draw up a will
lor her, and gave him the policy, a3 ho requested,
I"" ".for reference. Mrs. Boehau had caliod upon

- will, but he always had an excuse, and tailed to

lady and received $3 to pay for levenue stamps.

notwithstanding, he was held for a hearing at

Anotiteb Labokny. On Monday last
Charles H. Smith was before Recorder Kneu on
the charee of larceny as bailee. The facts of
' the case are as follows: About a year aeo a
" "lady (Mrs. Elizabeth Applebv) was keeping
house in this it v. She left, and went South oa
a visit. The furniture of the house was insured
" for $1000. She le't It in charge of Siuiih and
her sou-in-la w, at the former's request.

expected, and during her absence the rent

- in return Smith took $300 worth of choice fur-

Accident. This morning, about'a quar
ter past 11 o'clock, as a number of uuu were
engaged in lowering a largo cast-iron wheel.
Weighing about 700 pounds, a short distance
in the cellar of Dr. Jayue's establishment on
Chesnut street, the rope broke and the wheel
fell ou the scalloluiug, which gave way, and
precipitated a man named Samuel Talbot into
tbe sub-cellar, a distance of about tea feat, the
wheel falling on his l"it leg, aul breaking it
lust below the knee. He also received a sliuht
injury in the forehead truni oue of the boards
striking him. Another man. named James Gal-
llnrd. had the lore hncrer ot his lelt hand broken
at the same time. The former had his leg
bandaged temporarily, and was removed to the
Pennmlvania Hospital. The latter had his
finger fact by tho'-e connected with the store.
Stolen Sweets Lakceny of Thhee
UiitKELs of MoLAf-SEB. John White is a colored
man of twenty-live vein 6 ot aire. Ha is by pro
i fpfrgion a dravman. doihe business in this city.
He concluded that he could enrich hiin.elf at
others' expem-e. Acting on this conclusion, day
before yesterdav, between 11 and 12 o'clock, he
backed bis mrt, in a common, bu3iness-like
manner, on the wharf ol the New York Union
Line Company, and loaded it with three barrel i
ot molasses consigned to Waterman & Co., Third
Ktreet, above Catlowhill. It was 60on ascer
tained that he had stolen it. He was airested,
taHen before Aldcruian Clo id, and held in the
sum ol $1000 bail, thus paying dearly lor this
indulgence.
Assault and Bvttemy. Catharine
. Stewart, living at Twcutj sevenih and Walnut
streets, about thirty years ot ne. esterday at-
teruoon tell herself grea'ly offended at th3
actions and woros ol another female, name un
known, before her tioor. At this she pursued
the same policv as the oilier, but being of a
more excitable temperament, ami beina unable
to restrain her wrath, she seized a hatchet and
made a furious onslaught. Before doing any
serious injury, she wa3 arrested by Ofiicer lu
graham, and' held in delault of SibO bail by Al
derman Allen.
Larceny of Fubmtuke. Ann Riley, a
notewoithy female, while passing along Market
stieet and by the stores with goods represented
ou the walks, became convinced of an easy mode
ot replenishing her.stock of furniture that is,
by appropriating to herself a rocking-chair
valued at five dollars. This she did, and mado
off: but Ollicer Crumley was in the vicinity,
and before ehe had gone out of niht she was
arrested, and held by Alderman Jones in default
ot $400 bail.
The Inauguration. A battalion of the
1st Kfgiraent Orey Kei'ervcs, which consists
piincipally of the veterans ol the 118th, 110th,
and other regiments, parading three hundred
miibkets, will depart on Monday nieht at 11$
o'clock for Ilarriabuig. and will take p.irt in the
ceremony of Inaugurating Governor Geary, ou
the 16th instant. The realment is commanded
by Colonel Charles M. Prevost, late ot the 118th
(Corn Exchange) F.cgiment.

IfLtND. The liaval Committee yesterday
visited League Inland. They hell aa
examination in Room No. 1 at the Continental
Hotel. The persons examined were Com mauder
John Irwin. Chief Kngineer Jackson McEwell.
Second Assistant Engineer Absalom Kirby, and
Ensign Chester. Others will be examined to day,
in conjunction with all the ollieera of the iron
Clud fleet.
CoMri.AiNT Agaimst an Officer. On
Thursday last a man nsmed William Searles,
alins Wlilinm Ed wards, hUed ahorscand waaon
from one Charles ltrenU, who keep a liverv
viable al Broad and Walnut streets. He drove
to the place where a Mr. Reynolds was working,
and comiuciioed a violent assault npon bis ppr
fon. He was arrested, and taken before Alder
mnn I'atchel, who held htm In $500 bail. Oilicer
Fieldfare was do?patchd with the piisoner to
procr.re necurity in tbe above sum, and, it is
alleged that ho took h m to a tavern, and
tho prisoner (dipped out of the back door wi'h
the officer's permission, who returned to the
team, look It home, and put it In his st.ble.
This morning the ow ner of the vehicle and nag,
in ccmpsny with the roan assaulted, made a
complaint at the Central Station about the
Ofiicer not doine his duty, nnd an investigation
commenced, which was still progressing at th1;
time our report cloed.
Dkath from a Pistol Wound. This
morning James Lukens died from the effocts of
a pistol wound received on the 21st Instaut, in
a public house at Second nnd Lombard etrcets.
The particulars of the affair were given at the
time, but It was thought that tho roBUlt would
not be fatal.
The wout d of Mr. Lukens eroding wore, be
was r moved to the hospital a few days n?o,
and died there this morning. The Coroner's
inquest will be held on Monday. James Smith,
who ismpposrol lo have fired the fatal shot, was
on Thursday committed to prison by Alderman
Beitler.
Larceny of Raisins. Yesterday after
noon (Jeorire Wagnor, a youth of eighteen
years, detirous of appropriating anything to
to enrich blmself, entered the cellar of a gro
cery store on tho corner of Sixth and Croon
Blieets, from which be was seen to Issue with a
mat ot raisins.' He beuan to make off, when lie
was nabl-icd by a watchful oilicer, taken before
Aldernipu Toland, and held in default of $500
bail.
' Rioting. llarry mil, a young man of
eighteen, with about twelve others, got on a
frpree Isst niaht, and while under its excltine
influences attempted to smash in, tear out, and
upset everything in a.laeer beer saloon, at the
comer of Sinth and Green streets. Young Hill,
who lives at No. 712 South Twelfth street, was
the only one arres el. He -was held by Alder
man Tittcrmary in $800 baiL
f Keeper of A Disorderly Boarding
House. Daniel McKent is the propiietor of a
most disorderly boarding-house at No. 29 Bar
clay street, which has been asource of annoyance
and disgust to all good citizens surrounding.
On complaint being filed, he was arrested by
Lieutenant (Joldey, taken before Alderman But
ler, aud hcid in default of $500 ball. '
Strayed from IIome. Two boys, named
William Murphy, aged. about seven, aud Meyer
O'Brien, aged about eight, were found wander
ing near one of the skating parks this morning
by an officer. They had lost their way and
wanted to eo home. The officer conducted them
to the Central (station, where they now are.

Stealino Clothes, Etc. Eliza Clark
walked into the yard of a dwelling on Seven
teen! b stree t near Lombard, yesterday afternoon,
where were bung small wa-di clothes, towels,

Officer Crumley, of tbe Kitth District, arrested
her soon alter, and Alderman Tun'son, after a
tearing, held her in default of $ too bail.

passed a resolution to-day appointing a colored
Resident Committee at Washington, to look
