The act of April 15, 1842, authorized the loan of an addi tional fura ol $;,0(jO,'00, and made the amount obtained on the loan after tho pti'sairo of this ail reimbursable after tlx months' notice, or at any time not exceeding twentyycars Irjin Janu ary 1, 1843. This loan was made for the pur pose ot redeeming outstanding Treasury notes, una to defray any ot the public expenses. Act of January 28, 1847, authorized the issue of $2:1,000,000 m Treasury notes, bearing interest at a rate not exceeding x per cent, per annum, with authority to borrow any portion of ihe amount, and. Issue bonds therelor, bearing in terest at a rate not exceediue six per cent., and redeemable alter December 31, 1807. Act of February 8, 1861, anthoiized a loan of $25,000,000, bearing interest at a rate not ex ceeding six per cent, per annum, and reimburs able within a period not beyond twenty years. This loan. was made for the paymeut of the current expenses, and was to be awarded to the most tavorable bidders.
