Trnt Fiikb Fioht at Musical Fund Hall, I ocust St., wba a Eighth.. iiefore Alderman Beitler, on Saturday, in the presence of as many people as the place would hold, a hearing was had at the Mayor's Court, of Alderman William Mo Muliin, Thos. Doran, John Ahem, John Tobin and Robert Smith Lister, charged with complicity in the tight in front of Musical Fund Hall, ou Thorsd ly morning last. The evidence was this: Policeman Glenn, of the Fifth district, sworn On Thursday morning last, directly after four o'clock, he and policeman Steele were standing at the corner of Blackberry alley and Locust street conversing; while there a crowd came out of Mu sical Fond Hall; saw a wrangling next door to the bnilding; .just as we got across the street, Mr. Ovens said, "Here is the man who bit my nese; I want him arrested;" Steele canght hold of him; I attempted to assist and was driven back; the orowd hallooed. "Kill the s of a b :" Ahern, one of the defendants, grabbed hold of Steele; I went to bis assistance, and was driven back; Al derman Me.Miillin had a pistol in his hand by my side; 1 said, "Mully, don't you do that;" just as I said that Mr. Doran came up and gave me a blow; I looked urouud and saw Policeman Wood lying in the gutter. Gross-examined I was not on my regular bsat; was acting for Sergeant Jordan on the morning of the tight; I was arrapi, but considered, from the great number of men fighting, that it would be un safe for me to use my revolver; I endeavored to arrest Ahern, who had assaulted policeman Steele; was not at the ball-room. Policeman Wallace sworn. On Thursday morn ing last, about fonr o'clock, I was called to Steele's assistance by his whistle; went around to Musical Fund Hall; Ovens said "There is the man who bit my nose," pointing to Tobln; Ahern made for Steele and caught bold of him; I had a pistol In my hand; two of the crowd dragged me on to the sidewalk; directly after this Steele said he was cnt in the thigh j I then went over the street and found officer Wood lying in the gutter; saw McMullln, Ahern and Doran in the crowd during the fight. Cross-examined. Policeman Steele discharged One load from his revolver; I did not. Policeman Merger sworn On Thursday morn ing last, shortly after fonr o'clock, I was at the Hall; a party came out of the bar-room; William Ovens was standing near me; I was shoved out into the street: soon after this saw some men come oat of the ball-room and walk up to Dnponceau stres:; saw officers Steele and Glenn have bold of Tobin, trying to arrest him; directly after this Steele said he was cnt; about this time saw McMulliu coming across the street, with bis head cut. Policeman Wood sworn On Thursday morning last went to the assistance of policeman Steele; found a crowd of men running him down; Mr. Lister and Mr. Ahern bad hold of him; the latter said he was a United States government detective. Cross-examined Heard the report of one pistol; the crowd were fighting when I got there; they caught me just as I was drawing my club; Lister held on to the club; Ahern ran across the street, and came back again. The testimony here closed. Lieutenant Con nelly stated that both Steele's and Ovens' injuries prevented them from being prvwmit at the hearing. Defendants were held in Ssltioo bail each for a further hearing. A Fatal Appbat. Yesterday morning a party of men, who appear to have been carousing all night, got Into an affray at the corner of Ninth and Vine streets. During the affair Henry Gideon re ceived a blow. He fell, and when taken up was found to be dead. The row occurred In front ot a drinking-house. The body was taken to a con tiguous drug store, and the Coroner was sent for. His pbysictua made a post-mortem examination, when it was shown that the cause of the man's death was the result of a severe shock to his ner vous syBtem. The blow that be received was a very slight one, trom some man's hand. The vital organs were In a state of perfect health. The man was evidently good, though fifty-three years of Hge, for thirty years more of healthful life. The inquest will be held to-day. Five arrests were made during yesterday of parties charged with being concerued in the disturbance. Their names are John O. Donnelly, Joseph Oroke, George Body, Joseph H. Donnolly and James Donohue. Tbey were all commute! yesterday, at the Sixth ward station-house, to await the verdict of a Co roner's jury. Progress os 'ho Metrical S'Stem.
