The Metropolite of Novcgorod and St. Petersburg, surrounded by an assembly of bishops, had only an humble Christian before hiin in the trapezia (entrance-hail) of the chapel, pray ing tor reception into our Orthodox Church. The questions prescribed by the ritual the Prin cess answered in a loud ringing voice. We were surprised at htr correct pronunciation of the nncient Sclavonic language of the Church. Tne examination lasted about halt an hour, w hen the Archbhop led the Princess into the interior of the chapel, the clergy chauting the hymn, 'God reward her aud bless her.' The crowd then pressing into the church prevented our seeing tne remainder ot tne ceremony, uu leaving the church, a pink ribbon round her neck indicated that the young Princess, after embracing orthodsKy, had, (according to custom, been touched byne Holy Cross.
