Jobs, lie suppeats, is not sufficient to meet the
y. ante of the district, and refers to the fact that
a reservoir of the capacity of 2on,iHin.noo pnl
lons could be constructed at a tntlinp increase
of the present appropriation. Inferred to the
Committee on titer.
Mr. Van Cleve, from the Committee on Schools,
reported an ordioance approving of the contract
lor the erection of a srliool-houso in the Twent j-
- tiuiu limn. AJjrmt IU.
The same committee reported a resolution
authorizing a tiaubier of appropriation.
Agreed to.
Mr. VanJ Cleve, fbahmitn of the Committee
on the Reception of ihe State Flaps, submitted
a report, stating that the amount ap propriated
ny Councils was sufficient to meet the expenses,
and leavinp a balance ol'$tl7ti't3.
Mr. Jones, horn the Committee on Railroads
reported back, with favorable recommendation,
the resolution requiring passenger railway com
panies to pay an annual tax of $:U for each car,
instead ot $:), as at present. Postponed for the
present.
The committee to hom bad been referred the
ordinance making an appropriation to pay the
workmen employed by Hill A Smith, late con
tractors for cleansing the streets, reported in
iavor of pajhip the cluim-Sitfno.
- The bill gave rife to a good deal of discus
sion, but was passed tluallv by a vote of yeas.

District Court, $801-50; books tor Prothono

The ordinance Was then passed finally. A 1

Comiiion Council. A communication was re
ceived Irom Jhe Inspectors of the County
Prison, asking for an additional appropriation
of $12,500. Referred. i
Mr. Marcer, Chairman of the Committee on
Finance, reported an ordinance appropriating
H!,224,20 to the Department of Surveys tor the
year 167. Ordered to be printed.
The same gentleman, of the same committee,
reporte J a resolution adversely to the payment
of Air. Sweeney fox extra services performed as
Assessor in the Second Wurd, after tho death of
Mr. Harmer, an assessor of that ward. The
revolution was adopted and the committee was
discharged.
The same gentleman reported, an ordinance
appropriating $13,082,02 to pav officers of the
various (Joints, fees ot the District Attorney,
Clerk of the Quarter Sessions, printing, etc.

Air. Miller, of the Iliirhway Committee, re
ported resolutions providing for the grading of
Conrlland street, from Broad street to Old York
road, and Juniata avenue, from Fifteenth street
totdd York road, aud for the paving of portions
of Sixteenth, Twenty-second, Beach, and Caviu
streets, all of which were adopted.
Mr. Taylor, of the Committee on Markets, re
ported an ordinance prohibiting any occupant,
ot any stall or stand in the market-houses to
cook, or sell cooked victuals, on and alter the
1st of January, lb67, without special permission.
The ordinance was ngrecd to. 1
Mr. Taylor reported an ordinance providing
for the erection of an additional market-house
on Guard avenue, between Seventh and Franklin
;-trcets, for the exclusive use of farmers,
Mr. Fox moved to 6triko out Franklin aud in
sert Eighth street.
The amendment offered by Mr. Fox was agreed

Mr. Martin, in place, submitted au ordinance

The following ordinances and reflations
from Select Council were concurred in: Ordi
nance making transfers' in the appropriation
bills of the Board of Health and School Con
trollers; one approving a contract for a school
house in the Twenty-third Ward and one in
'reference to expense lor the reception of State
flags.
The ordinance from 8elect Council prov iding
for drawing a warrant for $120.V08 in favor ot
D. P. Weaver, to pay his salary as City fJouitnis1
sUner, was taken up.
Alter some discussion the ordinance was
passed yeas 10, nays 16.
Mr. Marcer (in place) submitted an ordinance
appropriating $300 to pay Samuel Sweeney for
making u rea-sessmeut of the Second Waid,
wh ich was adopted. Adjourned.
A Lad Stabbed hy Rowdii? p. Yester
day morning, while a lad named Wilhclm, suod
fourteen years, employed at Urown's tailoring
establishment, Eighth and Walnut streets, was
passing along Walnut street, near the store, he
was set upon by three jouths. One of them
' named Monaghuii, attempted to strike him over
the head with a billy; he warded off the blow
and en leavorvd to escape from hi a-tailai ts
when he a attucked by one of the gang
named Dumollen, whom he alleges htabbid nim
in the leg in two places, inflicting painful
wounds. Reserve Officer Kendig went to the
lad's rescue, and succeeded In capturing the
third party, who sravo the name of Hdward
W hite, whom V ilhelm alleges was prominent in
the attack. He was committed to answer at
Court by Alderman Buitler.
A Di btovs Case. Julia A. Davis, living
at No. 1003 Nectarine street, instituted proceed
ings yesterday afternoon against a very respect
able young man, whom she charges with having
entered her house en the afternoou ot the 15th
ult., stealing therefrom two counterpanes, one
shawl, a coat, aud some other articles. May
Davidson, a yoong girl who resides with depo
. neat, testified that fche saw defendant coming
' down stairs with the articles tied up in a news
paper; that he threatened to kill her In case
Le informed on him. Defendant avers that their
kthtms are filee. He was held by Alder
nan eltler in mmi Dull to answer.

Oilicer Fish, of the Fourteenth Ward police,
was accosted by a colored woman, who said she
had picked up an infant a lew minutes before,
on the footway, and desired him to take charge
of it, .which be did. . The infant was confided
to the care of a lady In the neighborhood, and
it died soon after. An inquest was held upon
it. and a verdict of death iiom exposure and
nei.lcct rendered.

Mr: Daniels, has assumed the duties of his'
oilice, and is located in the rooniB lately occu
pied by Mr. Taylor, the retiring ollicer. Mr
Daisicls has appointed Mr. Fletcher, the efficient
clerk of the hue Coroner.
Aid for the Old Country. The total
proceeds ot the late Fenian ball at National
Ouaids' Hall were sent to Ireland vc?terdav.
The money is intended for the relief of the des
titute families of the Irish State prisoners The
amount w as about $120.
Fatal Accident. James Graves, while
Rt work yesterday on the roof of tho Walnut
and Chesnut Streets Depot, at Forty-first and
Chesnut streets, fell to the piound, and was so
seriously Injured that he died soon after. He
was Irom New York.
Election. Mr. Thomas A. Grace has
been elected School Controller of the Twelltli
.Section, in place ot Mr. Willi am M.' Ltcvlvlk,
w nose ferui of service has expired.
Sweeping Out the Post Office. Quite
a Inrge number ot the clerks at the Post Oilice
were removed yesterday, and others appointed
in their places.
