Our Firemen. The United States' Hose
C ompany started early this morning on Uieir
MMtto Lancaster and Beading. The Company
will be the guests of the Uniou Fire Company
at Lancaster, and of the Juniors at Reading.
The United States will return to this city on

depot at 7 o'clock by an escort composed of the

Hose Company. It will be a three-story brick,
with brown stone mountings. The second story

The Fail-mount Engine Company are having
a new and beautiful hose carnage built, which
they intend to present tothe Liberty Fire Com
pany, of Reading. The prevailing color of the
carriage will be white.
The Hibernia Fire Company are progressing
finely in their arrangements for a grand trip to
Pans, for the purpose of attending the Paris
Exposition. The trip will take sibout three

interesting exhibition at the Continental Hotel,
last night, at ti. o'clock, A gentleman entered
the hotel, and wa9 followed by a worn gen
teelly dressed. She came- up to him just as he
had got in6 the bar-room, and, drawing from
her pocket a cowhide, applied the article to
the person of the gentleman described. The
affair gave rise to many strange surmises In re
ference to the cause of such unladylike treat

the afternoon, and, on separating, a dispute

The lirst Annual Exhibition will be held in
Philadelphia during the month of November.
Ihe obect oi this exhibition is to stimulate and
encourage wetnen in the pursuit ot art, to ac
quaint the public with the efforts they are
making, and to enlarge the sphere of employ
ment for them in the various directions art
affords. Contributions received lor exhibition
, will consist ol pictures, original, or copied ln oil
, painting, water colors, and pastel; designs,
sketches, studies, and drawings of all ,4oscrlp
tiona included in art; sculpture models in plas
ter, wood and steel engravings and lithographs.
Aa invitation has beea extended to women
throughout the country engaged in art pursuit, i
or having work In their possession executed by

How it Was Done. William Connelly,
Charles Lechler. and (Jcortre Ellison, who
committed on Friday last by Alderman Beitler, 1

number of robberies at private dwellings duriug
the summer, managed that evening to escape
from the prison van while oa their way to Moya
menfing prison. The driver ot the van, on
.eUering the prison yard, discovered that his
prisoneis had made their eieape through a hole
in the floor of the-vehicle, which had been, njada
by a saw. The driver at once returned tothe
detective office and there notified the otlicers.

caused by compression of the brain, and the
YeTOlct of the Coroner's Jury was, that the com
pression was caused by a full or blows. No trace
f the missing companion baa been discovered
