The following appeared during last vear in one
of the New lork dailies:

Another, in the same paper, setting forth the
many conveniences and ndvantaees to bo de
rived from mot il window-sashes, among other
particulars enumerates as lollows: "Tuo-e
sashes wilt but forever; and attr rwardi, if f he
owner has no use for them, they might b sold
for old iron." .
The above can only be matched by an an
nouncement contained in a transatlantic news
puper: MiHsrso from Killarney, Jake OTooartt she
bad in her arms two babies and a Guernsey cov,

behind her ears, and largo spots all down her back,

many curiosities with which the advertising

studded, we do not remember to have ever met

The public, it is feared have too much rea

nonet and the dishonest alike, eo that even the
high-toned, moral, or religious character of the
juuri ai publishing a certain advertisement
auordu no guarantee to the public that respond
ents may not be swindled. In this connection
it is not necesf-ary to reter to lotteries, gift en
teipriseH, etc. Such concerns are bein" gene
rally correctly estimated, ami it is only y ud
vert'sing on an extensive scale that they can
now meet with any degree of success by now

acter, almost iuvariahly, as to fail to merit re

a column of the trash, which, however U sel

tive, but only from their brevity. Dewey, for in
stance, a grocer in Burlinsrton, Vermont, rhymes
