a majority ot 20,031 over General McClollan, who
went betore the people on tho declaration that the
war was a lailure. In 1863, at the Gubernatorial
contest. Andre G. Curtln polled 269 496 votes, a
nmiorily of 15 825 over George W. Woodward, the
candidate ot the (sympathizers with treason, and
this, too. when over two hundred tbounand of her
sons had gone forth to uphold tho flag of their
country on tho battle-field, and before they had
teen permitted to exercise the elective IrancHiso
while in the field.
