There is nothing new-un!r the sunat prroent.
In iitct, we have no sun to look at Old Sol ha
been sulklnc us lor the l ist month; he refusus
to ripen our praprand corn. The (Treat political
actors of the day have no retired into private
life, and politics nrv. almost, if not entirely,
netrlected lor the present.
The only matter of any political interest is the
Sutoii Ileiigiinure
to be the vtial of Prussia. Toe inhabitants of
Predion, the capital, and Lciprlc think it would
te better to b- at once swallowed up by
The Prussian 0rc,
thn to have to dra' on a miserable cxutuiice of
sham autonomy. Uisnuirl: is inowt anxious that
Saxony should share the late of Hanover,
Nassau, and Electoral Hesse, but ns Kiner. John
ras a pieat friend at the Court of, the Tuilenefi,
the ttaintr Is not yet to bo done without civuiir
frtiit ollensp on this side of the Khine, and he
must for thy present postpone it.
The Sick Man of the IioKjtliont.
The sultan, like mauy of his collc-azuci, Is
rather in a fhaWy state. Mustnpb'i P;k:1ih h is
not been ablf to prevail upon the Cuudians to
feel more kindly towards the Turkish Govern
ment. They will "none on't," and all they want
is to be allowed to cliunsro their master, and
liavc Kliiff Oeorgp of (Jreece for tLeir sovereign.
The Government of the Kin? of the (3 recks is
doing all it can to favor ihe, insurrection (of
course sub rosa), as well ns the hostile atti
tude of the Danuoiau subjectsof the ''Crescent, "
who arc anxiou to ha ruled by the "Cross."
The Slrk Mnn In Mexico
is not in a much better state than his brother
of tie Bopphorus. Many oi'our pessimist papers
prophesy the approaching arrival a. St. Na.aire
of the pineerbrtad Emperor of the Aztecs;
ethers affirm that he hast not been entirely given
ever by his doctor, and that
Ciencral C'liHltlnau,
Aide-de-camp to the Emperor, will shortly
leave Farison a mission to Mexico.
Change In the French Mllltnry System.
This is the order ot the day at present; it is
the ruling topic just now. The old conscrip
tion system is to be set aside, and the Prussian
system, which orJprs that every able-bodied
man, baviug attained the ae of twenty-one,
nhall be forced to serve his country during the
space ot twelve months, will most ptobably be
adopted.
It is calculated that by entirely chanirinir the
present fiio'iing of toe army, and by introducing
that of Bismark, which has shown itself to be
so practical, the forces of France would be
rained to 1,514,103 me.n, which, would cost the
country 239,000,000 francs per annum. Oh, the
beauties of a military government !
Monileur lc Motistlcr,
the new Minister ol Foreign Affairs, will not be
in Paris before the middle of October. He will
be the twelfth Minister of Foreign A Hairs since
December, 1848. His predecessors have been
M. Drouyn de LJiuys, M. de Tocqueville, June,
1849; M. Lahitli, 19th of November, tho same
year; M. Drouyn de Lhuys, January, 1851 ; M.
Brennier, 21th of January, same year; M.
Baroche, 10th of April, 1851; M. Tunrot, 2Gth of
October; M. Drouyn de Lhuys, 2Sth of July,
1852; M. Waleweki, 8th ot May, 1855; M. Thouve
mel, 1st of January, 18U1; and M. Drouyn de
Lhuys again in 18li2.
Italy.
The Italian Government is now doing what
was done in Ameiica after the termination of
the sad civil war, viz, sending its soldiers home.
However, papers say We are deluged with
Garabaldini. Their generals are giving their
resignation?. Yesterday it was Corte; to day
Niestera. The complete dissolution ot the corps
will soon follow. Very bad management has
made these volunteers very discontented during
the whole course ot the war. It appears that
170,000 pairs of shoes have been sent for the vol
unteers; nevertheless, the distribution had been
so badly made that whole companies were in want
of a supply. Th same mismanagement occurred
with the shirts. Italy maintained during the
war an army of 904,000 men, all told. The dally
rations, on account of their bad quality, have to
be trebled; that is to say, three have been given
to each soldier. This, however, did not prevent
many from coin without a meal.
The Eiupreaa of Mexico.
The Empress Charlotte, whether she remains
at Miramax to await the Emperor .Maximilian, as
some assert, or whether she returns to Mexico,
will not visit Bru&sels. The day after the depart
ure of the Empress from Paris for Miramar,
Messrs. Jules von Prnet and Conway, two of tho
testamentary executors ot the late Kiner, left,
iirusseis ior juiramar to comer wnu uer Majesty u
on the subject of the deceased juonarch's will, J
Ty law, the executors nave a year ana a week
from the date of the death to perform their
office. It was to obtain the approval of the Em
press to the steps already taken, that the-e pen
llemm visited Miramar. Up to the present
time the work of the executors 'has beeu slow
and embarrassed. Tbelr mission seems likely to
be as long and difficult as that of Mr. Dupln,
the executor of Louis Philippe: the dltliculty is
principally iii precautions lcquhed to prevent
the publicity of the will, which is reported to
contain, besides general depositions and nume
rous special legacies, home political considera
tions of very grave import.
Cholera.
This scourge is sf'll hovering about Franc.
It has now entirely leit Amiens, where it carried
OlTso many victims. The papers bring us daily
examples of acts of selt-dovotlon in almost every
town in France. M'me Cornenu, who braved

bites ot serpen's. Certain it is, that, this plant is
a powerful sudorific, and has now, for the last
ten years, been used by the celebrated Cardans
and others, especially at ' the Hospital Lari-boii-icre,
where, under the form of wine or eli xir,
it has been found to produce a salutary excite
ment of the digestive organs, leading to the
regular action of the functions of secretion and
excretion. From a series of observations made
at Amiens by Dr. Bournevillc during the most
violent period of the cholera, it appears that, by
administering guaco, six out f ten cases of
confirmed cholera, which had re-isted every
other treatment, terminated in a complete
recovery; that four bad ca-es of cholerine
were more promptly cured; and that the
same was the case with lour cases of
cholcr.tlc diarrhoea the doses of guaco to be
administered in order to obtain satisfactory
results in cholera have not been sufficiently
ascertained. For diarrhea and enema, one
third of tincture of guaco and two-thirds ol
water, to be repealed, il necessary, every three
hours. In drink, to quench the Inextinguish
able thirst which cholera always occasions, a
decoction of guaco, wltti a sliulit addition of
alcohol, is administered tvH. This decoction
was the only drink allowed at Amiens; the
patient? themselves, moreover, preferring it to
any other liquid. The reaction sets in slo wly,
but is not followed by nny distressingsyniptoins,
as is the c.ise whf n it is sudden.
