SPIRIT OF THE NEW YORK PRESS.
Dislocated nuil Kt'-Nctt
EXPRESSLY FOR THE BCFI'ER-TAULE SERIES.
The first article adapted to the weather (on
Account of its coolness) that arrested our eye in
the limes was the following:
rF"A DENTIST WANTS A YOUNG MAN TO
teach him his proietsion gratis. Applicants will
Mate their ajo( occupation, and II able to support
uemc:ves lor six montns, Address "lcutist
office of New York Times.
One would imagine that in seeking for i
Young Man who is to teach this Dentist his pro
iession, some special stress would be laid on his
previous avocations. We could understand a
Dentist advertising for a Perfumer to teach him
vxiruus, or ior a rnwyer to hie teetu, or tor a
Druggist with some knowledge of Gums, Human
or Arabic. But no, the Young Man is simply
expected to teach this Dentist "his profession
gratis," and to support himself for six mouths
besides. The coolness of the oiler is beyond
belief.
Or GENTLEMEN AND LADIES HAVING
cast ofl'Clotlnnif can dispose ol the euuie by calline
at No. 164 Chatham Street.
The bare idea and it certainly Is a bare idea
that citizens of Now York have cast olf their
clothing, and adopted the Paradisiac dress, is
htartltng to one's nerve.-. Can it be that a new
religious sect, advocating Total Abstinence from
Worldly Garments, has sprung up iu their mid.-l?
Will these people, each with a bundle of their
now useless clothing under their respective
arms, proceed in solemn procession to No. 164
Chatham street, to dispose of the same?
W A RESPECTABLE WOMAN WISHES
the washing ot a low ladies and gentlemen, at her
residence, No. 202 East Twelllh street, top Hour,
Iront room.
We have all heard of the "Turkish Baths" in
New York, but this is a still newer brrangement,
aud perhaps cheaper. The advautage of the
"top floor, front room," we suppose U, that the
ladies or gentlemen cau dry the sooucr, aud in
greater privacy from the passers-by in the street,
as the woman who washes thera evidently has
limited accommodations,
ITT A SMALL FAMILY OF FOUR ADULTS
want two superior Ciir's. Beat city reterences re
quired. Apply at No. 12 West Xhiriy-iitth street.
That is a very natural waut. Even it they were
"superior boys" that were wanted, we would not
wonder at it. Our astonishment is that any
family (with so many adults in it) would make
their family wants so public as to advertise
them in the Ilcraid.
tJ- A GOOD MEAT AND PASTRY COOK DE
sirts a Situation ; uudcrtunds French aud Spa

Houston Btreet, near Second avenue, basement.
That may be, but ooes she understaud "Chiua

the understand that they will break with care
less handling? Very desirable knowledge ou
the part of a Cook.
tW HOME WANTED BY A YOUNG GEU

Address, etc.
What kind of au ownership, we would inquire,
must a man nave in nis tatniiy, ueiore ne can
call it his "Private Family?" How does a private
family diller 1iom a public one ? We suppose a
man owns a Private Family when he has no
mother-in-law residing with him.
tff WAN 1 KD A WOM AN (WIDOW) TO

-Appiy at no. 64 ltuitfors street.
Horrible! Don't talk of Cauuibali.siu or the
King ot the Cannibul Islands any more. We
don't believe that he would be as particular as
to specify whether a per-'ou should be a widov
or not, that he was going to "serve up.'' Peoph
preteud to shudder at the number of "Horse
8oup" restaurants now iu operation in Paris.
Wc think them nothing compared to running
across this establishment, where widows are
r-erved up with so little thought. We suppose
the y supply their own bailee.
KW WANTED BY AN ENGLISH GIRL, A

Can "cut and fit" them to what ? to their beds

tJT-WANIED-A YOUNG MAN DKIRE A
position in a banking-houe or brok' r's ollloe; has
had some experience; salary no object. Address
W. V., BOX old.
This is better, arid easier understood, Wc like
the candor of this yonns: man; he ha had some
experience in a banking house, Bnd he know
that salary is no object; in (net, wouldn't boein
to pay. All we have to say is, we hope he will
pet a t-Uuntion in New York, aud not be forced
to come to this city.
tTT A BEAUTIFUL. TA1R OF TWINS, ALSO
a hiack-eyed girl, to be adopted out. Wanted, a lit

What will she open, her trunk ? And will she
open it with the "lntc-t stvles?" What are they ?
One way we know ia with a "jimmy." another
way is wilh the or linnry key, another way is by
an "open scr-miic,'' such a Holler practises in
opening his boxes, but as no price is advertised,
we cannot think it an ordinnry exhibition.
Surely, in the lnngmuro. ot Shakespeare (had he
lived in these limes), "there are more thingi in
the New York papers than were ever dreamt of
in cur philosophy."

With this "Aitonishins" extract wc must
close; we can oiler no explanation about this
seventh daughter, except that it would not be
difficult to tell the thoughts ot everybody who
reads her advertisement, as wl! as enters her

MUSICAL NOTES.
From thejJumtor of the Academy of Music, we
have gleaned the following information relative
to coining Opera Season :
Sr. Patricko Moriatti, whose performance:, on
the Organ (barrel) used to druw suoh crowds of
beauty and fashion near the Dock Street Market,
is daueerotisly ill at his residence iu Bedford
street. His malady is said to be Orgauic.
The Old Gentleman who plays the Clarionet
in the neighborhood of Market Street Bridge,
and along the Schuylkill, is an Irish Nobleman
(not, as has been erroneously stated, a Blessing)
in discuise. He travels for a bet, the terms of
which are, that he is to take in a hundrei dol
lars a year in bud moae? for ten years. This
is his tenth ye;ir, and he thinks he will win
the bet.
Citwu(;LMics Ap Tuomas, the Welsh Bard, is
coming to this country. He will be received by
the Llwglmursmstrath of Philadelphia, and his
perlortuanee on the (Jthuidathrurgwstlyu, or
Welsh Harp, will be the most interestiue mu.ucal
event ot the season. He is native ot Moelgwys
trnwbstwith, and his father was the inventor of
the Bsnwrw Cymrstgggllwust,
An ingenious mechanic has lately constructed
an improved set of Scottish Baapipes. The lm
