RETORT OK GRAND SIRE TEITCII.
The report of tnu Grand Sire was presented
and read to the Lodge. Kelerring in general
terms to the present condition of the Lodge and
its recent progress, tiranu sire veitcn says:
It atlords me pleasure to state that the gi-ue
rnl conditioi) of tne Ordi-r is highly eratityiu?
At no tormer period ol it" history on this conti
nent has it exhibited greater vigor and pros
perity than at the present time, especially in
that portion of th general jurisdiction which
was exempt from the depressing effects of the
late civil contest, and which has enjoyed unin
terrupted fraternal intercourse.
The meeting of the representatives from the
various sections of the Order at your last session
alter so long a separation, and the cordial and
hanpv reunion ot the Brotherhood which then
took olace. gave to the emue Order a Iresh lm
petus, and imparted to it a renewed zeal, which
in the main continues imabutea.
The past year has been one of unexampled
success in our moral and benevolent enterpiU' s
In most of the Jurisdictions the accessions have
ripen lame, and r.rob.ibiv have exceeded those
oi any previous year. The returns already re-
ni'ivpd indicate that tbe net gain m the mem her
ship for tbe past ear is largely in excels of any
'Correspuiiuiiiy jjhiwi in, uiiumn v .v i'ium,
While it is true mat we nave noi realized me
full measure of the generous hopes which the
events of the last session to fondly inspired in
mforeiice to that nortioti of our Brotherhood
occupying the Southern section oi our Held, yet
we have the assurance that, notwithstanding
their prostrated condition, they exhibit cheering
indications of resuscitation and vitality, aud the
nrni-pss of Odd Fellowship among them, under
all tbe circumstances of their titualion, is as
piieouracring as could be expeeled. The devo
tion which they have always showu to the Order
in the past, and which they still manifest, is a
mmrimtPi. of ils future nrosoeritv in these iuris-
lictiout. aud auspicious ot the best and most
lasting resul'.s. We trust the time is not far dis
tant when, with the return of their material
prosptritv, they will rally their energies to
greater triumphs in the cause of Odd Fellowship
than even lu me lormei ami ucuci unjn ui men
history.
Let us continue to evidence towards our
Southern brethren our warmest sympathy in
their protracted trials and sufferings. Their
condition strongly appeals to the benevolence
of the whole Order. The destruction of their
halls, lodge rooms, furniture, and regalia by
the ravages of war, was in some sections almost
total and complete. Their efforts to rebuild
their halls and to refurnish them have been to
some extent promptly and liberally aided by
the more favored portions ot the Otder, and
should continue to receive our fraternal assist
ance. GRAND SECRETARY RIDGELY'S RETORT.
From the report of Grand Secretary Ridgely
ie tondeuse the following statement of the
number of Lodges and Eurampments in the
several Stares and Territories, together with the
amount expended in relief, included in which is
the relief of member of the Order, their wid
owed families, expenses of burying the dead,
and that paid for the education of orphan chil
dren. The report is brought down to the 30th
ot J une. 18tiC.
