Taylor held an inmiwa yesterday on the body of
Henry Walters, who was sbot on Sunday morn
rnt, at Mojamcnsinic avenue and Greenwich
trert, during a firemen's riot. The following

fler Hose Company; was at the fire on Sunday
roorniiig; I was in Bouvier's bar-room about 3
o'clock in the morning; heard the fuss outside;
I ran out and I met a man coming from the
western side of the street with a pistol in his
fcnnd; my friend jerked me in the bar-room and
the doors were rimed about five mtnittp after
Walters was shot; don't know the man who shot
liim; 1 only heard about five shots.

not equipped.
James Ellenger sworn I reside No. 130
Twker street; I am a member of the Shiftier
Hose i Company ; was at the lire on Sunday mora

called "Shep;' I saw Walters shot; after the fire
was over there was an alarm of another fire;
the companies took up hose; the Hibernia's

vers; at this time Walters and myself were stand
ing on the pavement; didn't know many ot the
men in the oar-room; they were not equipped;
some one said there's one of them on the pave
ment, give it to him; at that moment the man
with the duster (James Edmonson) came up to
the curb-stone and shot at Walters; immediately
Biter a second shot was tired, and Walters fell
on his knees; I don't know wtiether the loads
lrom the pistol tired by Edmonson shot Walters
or not; there were no other shots tired at the
time, but immediately afterwards perhaps
twenty or thirty reports; the man who Ired at
Walters bad no equipments on.
To a Juror I am sure Edmonson is the man;
1 don't know him to speak to him. but I hav
seen him at every Are lately; he is the driver of
tbe Weccacoc steamer.
To Prisoner I don't remember how you were
, dressed, except that you were not equipped.
i . Samuel Mcllvain sworn I was with Walters
when he was knot; I don't know who shot him:
I caught him in my arms when he fell; he could
not speak; Walters was not equipped; had not
any pistol that I saw; from tweutv to thirty
shots were tired after il picked Walters up; a
largo crowd was in the street when the pistol
was fired; did not see a man advance from the
crowd aud (ire.
Policeman Sherr sworn I was at the fire on
Sunday morning; when I first saw it, 1 ran to
the house of the Shiftier Hose Company, and
tried to get the carriage out, but the members
would not let me; they said that I might take
one or two sections of hose. When the tight
, began in the bar, I went in, and saw one man
beating another over the head with a pistol; the
crowd got out on the ioot-way and tliere was a
number of pistol shots; the hose carnage began
to move up the avenue, and I ran out and
grabbed one man; he cried out, 'Tou are not
going to let me be taken, are you ?'' three or
tour shots were then tired at me, and the mau
got off; none of the men were equipped. .
David R. Paul, ot the Weecacoe Engine Com
pany, F. J. Cooper, driver of the Hibernia
steamer, and Thoma9 W. Rider, all testified to
seeing Edmonson at the carriage while the

mortem examination, and to the discovery that
the ball, a very small one, had passed through
tbe left lung aud the aorta, producing deatu
from hemorrhage.
The jury rendered a verdict that Henry Wal
ters came to his death troiu a pistol-shot wound,
inflicted by James Edmonson, on the morning
' of September 16. 18GC. ,
The accused was committed for trial.
The prisoner made a statement to the Coro
ner's jury, in which he said that he always
carried the navy revolver, when he was, on the
steamer, to protect himself aud it. He denied
that he had it with him at the fire on Sunday
morning. In answer to the question by a juror,
he said that the steamer was not tascn out on
Sunday morning because ot a belief that an
Attack would be made on the Company.

The Outdoor Auent reported receipts for sup

receipts at $59-20,
The House Aeent reported the census of the
House on Saturday, the 15th, at 2020; same time
last year, 2U7U, an increase or iau. Admitted

The Storekeeper reported having received.
since last meeting, 66 pounds of forfeited butter.
The Committee on Insane Department, to
whom was referred the communication from the
Knard of Health, made a report, contradicting
the statement of thejBoard of Health Committee
in reference to tne insane Department.
A resolution was adopted requesting the Store-
keener to inlorm the Board, when making his
report, of the Market Clerks from whom he re
ceived forlcitea butter, with the amount given

Mr. Erety here stated to the Board that there
have been seven cases of cholera under treat
ment in the house within the last two weeks,
onlv one of which occurred since tne uttt lust.
So that but one new case ot cholera has actually
occurred within the two weeks. Oi the seven
cases, three proved fatal, and two were brought
in from the city. ...
Drs. Allls. Orvis. Curtin, and Wears were

After srrantine the usual requisitions, the
Board adjourned.
The Boat Burners. A further hearing
was had yesterday afternoon in the case of
Gilbert Adams, charged with conspiring to burn
the steamer Meteor, with . Intent to defraud
certain insurance companies. At a previous
hearing, Captain Denny, who was In command
of the vessel, testified that his brother had been
employed to set her n tire by curtain of the
owners, and yesterday the brother testitied as
lollows:

crovc; I was employed on the steamship Meteor:
was on board on the 15th of November, 1865; I
had a conversation with French previously; ne
told me everything was ready and to "let the
boat po the first opportunity:'' the conversation
took place on the boat; 1 was a deck hand ou
the boat; the steamship came to at Weiduer's
wharf,-at Chester, and about o'clock, all
' hands being ashore except the steward and one
of the deck hands, the boat was set on tire; I did
it with a lamp; some rubbith in the forward
part of the steamship was fired; tne boat was
burned to the water's edge; I never ruceived
any compensation for it; was to be largely re
' warded; that came through my brother to me,
from the owners. ,

Tuk Pennsylvania State Fair. The
preparations lor the Pennsylvania Stato Fair,
which comes off at Easton this year, coramene
intri on the 36th instant, ana continuing four
dajs, promises to be a complete and perfect
success. Every department will be unusually
full, and a number ot inventions will be in
troduced. Tbe aegretrate prizes are valued at
over $10,000, ol w hich f 2000 will be lor the fast
est horses. A number ot highly exciting rice
will take place, in which celebrated horses will
lake part, among them "Mountain Maid" and
'Fannv Allen." General Jlartranft's great stock
of Kentucky thorough-breeds will be exhibited
and offered for f ale. The Horse and Floral De
partments will be magnlticcnt. The managers
are doing their very best to make the coming
fair tne nnest ever seen in mis State, and Mr.
A. B. Longaker, the Secretary, is run down with
business.

Clkrgymkn in Difficulty. Before Re
corder Eneu yesterday, one ot our p.-ominent
clergymen charged another one of equal promi
nence witn detrauding him. The prosecution
pre w out of transactions in the stock of one or
more coal oil companies. There was an allega
tion of bad faith on one side and a failure to
lultil an agreement on the other. The accused
was held to answer.
