It whs built under the super intendence ol a Committee from the Indepen dence Hose Company. The Neptune Fire Company, No. 10, of Albany, N. Y., are making arrangements to visit this city in KeptPmbcr. Tne Company will briug their bteanier with them. The (iood Intent Enpine Company housed a new carriage on Saturday. The Assistance Fire Company have sold their hose carriage to a compuny in Warren, Ohio. Noahe & L.evy, in this city, are constructing a tbird-class steam tire engine tor the Washington Fire Company, of Lancaster. The Friendship Fire Company, of the same city, are also hav ing a new steamer built. The bouthwark Engine Company have made a contract lor the rebuilding of their carriage. The Franklin Fire Company have received a beautiful frame, containing a likeness of a late member, from ti. A. Bricuman, late Chict En gineer ot the Sacramento (California), Fire De partment. The Perseverance Ho-o Company are having their carriage thoroughly overhauled and re paired. Fibe in A Saw-Mill. About 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon a tire broke out in the drying-house cannected withjthe extensive saw mill owned by Mr. Thompson, and situated at the northeast corner of Tweltth and Pleasant streets. It is situated on Button wool Btrect. It is built of brick, and is about twenty-five feet high and thirty teet in depth, and very compactly constructed, being lined with iron plates, devoid of any means of ventilation, with the exception ot two small windows and a chimney. It adjoins a large lour-story brick building used by Mr. Thompson as a place to store dried timber. The drying-house contained a large quantity of lumber, closely packed. It was with the greatest difficulty the firemen could get at the flumes. The lire made an immense smoke, but no flames were visible. It burned with great stubbornness lor several hours, and it was not nntil late in the evening when the lire was got completely under. The flames did not reach further than the drying house. Woods ok Fibe. Passengers by the after noon train from Atlantic City, on Saturday, slate that the woods are on fire, several miles north of Elwood, New Jersey. At that time at least one mile ol trues were in a lull blaze. Unless a heavy rain Bhould lull an immense amount of property w ill be aeitioyed. Great piles of cord wood are on tire, and there is no possible way ot suppressing, or even checking, the Humes. The deupe smoke cumins from the woods can be seen at Waterfoid, a distauceot over thirteen miles. The tire originated accidentally lrotn "coaling." Hospital Cases. The following per sons were admitted to the Peuusylama Hos pital yesterda v : Georee Mullen, aged seventeen, residintr at No. 1732 Wharton street, with hh leg badly bruised by being run over by a wagon. Geonie Worrell, aged sixty-two, who slipped at his residence, Bixih street, above Brown, and broke his leg. William Laycock, aged twenty-six, residing in Fifth street, above ISpruce, with several ribs broken, by tailing oil the roof of the Robert Morris Hose house, at two o'clock yesterday morning. The Mobtality Statement. The mor tality statement, tor tne week ending August 11th, sbows that 62 persons died during the week from cholera, 24 from cholera-morbus, 11 from diarrhaa, 17 from dysentery, 11 from ty- rboid fever. 1 from small-pox, 1 lrom murder, irom diptberia, and 73 from cholcra-fntantum. The total number of deaths was 471, which is a decrease of 33 over the previous week. During that week 47 deaths from cholera occurred, showing an increase of 6 for the past week. Abbest of the Supposed Mcbdebf.b of Mb. Raymond. A colored man was arrested last night by Chief Franklin, on very strong suspicion of" beiug the guilty party. Ho will bave a hearing to-day, at 2 P. M., at the Central station. The negro was pointed out to the police as a person w ho had been in the employ of Mr. Raymond, and who had been dismissed for incurable la.iue.-?. He had been heard to threaten the life of Mr. Raymond, but said that lie would warn his wife in time to save herself. Arrest of a Shoveb of tiieQueeb." A man who gave the name of John Anderson was arrested on Saturday night at Fourth and Bhippcn streets, on the charge ot passing coun terfeit money, and of having a deadly weapon concealed upon hi person.
