about the same as Oliiccr Smith's.
The other evidence elicited was somewhat

ers on the minority side denied being "Johnson
men," but claimed to be radical Republicans

room, where the tire occurred, for the purpose

a Mr. linn, aud the thud story by another
family. There have been frequent disputes
among the inmates. Tin testimony did not

n.anner. The Aldermaa reserved his decision.
Launch of a Schooner. Yesterday
morning, at 9 o clock, a haudome schooner was
launched from the shipyard oi Taylor & Matbia&,
at Cooper's Point, New Jersey, t-he is named
ih Maaaie '. Smith, and Is intended for thu
coasting trade. She ia being built for Captain
Robert Grace, of this city, and baa a capacity
fit uhniit three hundiei ton". Her value, when
completely fitted out, will be $20,000. Several

over yesterday by the Philadelphia Hose car

Yesterday aiternnon two small bovs weut into
the Delaware, at Dickersou street wharf, to
bathe. They got bcond their depl n, aud one
ot them, named Robert .1. Wade, eight years
old, whs drowned. The other boy was rescued
by a lad about twelve years old, whoso name
was not ascertained. The body of young Wale
was lecovefd, and conveyed, in the amb il nice
of the South work Hose Company, to the resi
dence of his patents, Fourth street, below
Morris.
Drowsing of an Us known Man. An
unknown man, about thirr.y years old, was
drtiwned last evening at Smith's wharf, below
Cliesuut strict. The body was recovered. He
is about bve leet eight incnes high, and has
brown hair and havy moustache. His dress is
a linen duster, black pants with a small white
dft in them, white bhirt and an merino tinder-
shirt. On his richt arm are the initials "H. M. ;"
on the lctt aim, in India ink, a boot; supposed
to be named II. B.Morgan, Mo. 1j3U Wood street.
Coroner's Inquests. The Coroner held
au inquest yesterday on the body of Thomas
I'rcscott, who died ot cholera on an oyster
seroouer uovt n tue uciawnre.
An inquest was also held on the body ot Mary
Ennis, who was drowned on Sunday afternoon
in the Delaware, at Utis street wharf. The
uame ol the man w ho was drowned in an at
tempt to rescue her was Mr. Wilbam J. Cameron
Commencement of Term. The Ausust
term ol the Quarter Sessions commenced yes
terday morniug. Judcre Pierce presided, in the
absence ol Juuge Ludlow, who is to hold the
present term, but was detained by sickness in
Lis laruiiy. J. jvi. Kicnaras was appointed lore
man ot the Graud Jury. The Court adjourned
until Friday next. The constaDle returns will
be received on Monday next.
