A meeting ol the "champions" from various
sections ot the Union was held at the Metro
politan Hotel, in this city, on Monday, and an
association was organized, having in viow the
promotion in every suitable and proper manner
of the interests at what has now Wo,it am mg

the meeting were opened at 4 o'clock

aiUerent sections of the country were repre
sented either in peron or by proxy. Among
the ''champions" present were Michael Phe
Ian. Ei.q., the renowned promoter ot the Ulliard
cuncc in this country: bis business partner,
Mr. Ooiaidor; Orationl. Huboell, ot th.s citv:
lr. McDeyltt, R. T. Ryall, Mr. Foley, of lilt
noifl, and Mr. Daniels, of Massachusetts. The
chair was, on moiion, taken by Mr. Ilubbell,
and Mr. V. E. Gaviit wat appointed Secretary.
The Chairman having thanked the meeting tor
tbe honor conteirrd on him, explained the
obfect of the gathering, and reicned to the
beneficial influence which would follow the
esUblisumcnt ot annual tournaments, by which
a proper spint ot competition would be created
among all leading players.
