J., preached the opening sermon, from Psalm l.vvi, 5, "Come and see the works of God." The Conference met again in the evening, and was opened by relinious exercises. Tue ques tion lor debate whs then taken up: -"What is the best method jor promoting the revival spirit among the churches?" The lu cushion was a verv abls one, and elicited great commendation". It was partici pated in by Messrs. Smiley, Kwilt, Oweus, Dye, llarvey, t'louden, Miller, Ilawes, r.nd others. Alter the aiscussicn the Conference ndjourned to meet next September, in the Plymou'h Church, Canterbury. Delaware. The Or.Arg Manufacturers of the United States. A Convent.cn of the f.las3 Mannlncturers of the United States was held yesterday afternoon, at the Conti leiitnl Hotel, at which the trade was handbomely repre sented, aud a very intercitincr session wai held. The organization is of five years' existence. The utmost harmony prevails among its mem bership. Its annual met tines are a pleasant communication of businc3s' and enjoyment. Just now they are a little anuoyed at the bur dens laid upon them, when the fore in article conies to us with so very little restriction; but the association, loyal and true, hopes on, hopes ever. An election for officers for the onsuingyeRr was entered inro. It resulted thus: President, John P. Pears; Vice-Presidents, S. II. Fessenden, Henry C. Fox; Secretary, Nathaniel S. Bailey. Having thus completed nn organization, the gentlemen proceeded to business, and held a session of exceeding interest, and resolved that the next annual meeting be held in June, 18H7, the time and place to be designated by the oili ceis ol the association. The report ol ihe Com mittee on Pioteetiou was presented. It inclu les a memorial to Concress lor t he needed protec tion. This memorial has been presented to the Committee on Ways nnJ Means, and is now under consideration. The hope of tue associa tion is that it will meet with n favorable re sponse, and that this important branch ot home industry may not languish tor lack of the foster ing care of our own Government. The delegates to the Convencion will spend to-dav on a tour among the public institutions ol Philadelphia, among which they will be escorted by the glass trade of this city. At a meet ing ot the 88th Regiment Pennsylvania Volun teers, held last evening, the following officers were elected: President, Brevet Brigadier General Louis Wagner: Treasurer, Captain Edward L. Gilligan; Secretary, Captain Alexan der 8. Gnrdiner. The following resolutions were adopted: """-s Jieiolved, That the regiment turn cut on the Fourth ol July in a body, the uniform to bo black coats and pautaloons, and fatigue caps bearing a badge designating the regiment. Resolved, Taat Lieutenant Donnelly secure streamers designating the names of each and every battle in which the regiment has been engaged, the colors of the streamers to be red, white, and blue. Resolved, That a committee of om from each company be appointed to make arrangements lor the celebration. The following Committee were "elected: Samuel B. Oardiuer, Company B; David Trexler, Companv C; Lieutenant M. Donnelly, Company D; Captain Gilligan, Company E; Captain Gar diner, Company G; Sergeant Kinsley, Company K; and F. K Murphy Police Intelligence. At the Central Station yesterday, John McKenna and John Husey had a hearing ot the charge of larceny. The testimony disclosed the following facts: That the accused were seen by Ollicers Gorman and Creamer, at a late hour on Tuesday night, in the neighborhood ot the Lehigh avenue mar ket, and followed to the residence of McKenna, a tew squares off. The policemen then returned to the market. aud finding two men asleep there, woue them up and usk-(d them it they had lust anything. After an examination of their pock ets, ihey discovered that they had; one of them missed 'a watch and chain, a medal, and a pocket book containing a small sum of mony; the other a pocket-book containing from $10 to $15, a pocket knife and a haudkerclnet. Upcu receiving this Information, the ollicers went back to the house into which McKenna aud Husey were seen to go, and considerable of the stolen property was recovered there, most of it in McKcnnu's pockets. The Tbiladelphia Britrade and the 27th Pennsylvania Volunteers, and the H8th Pennsylvonia Veteran Volunteers, held meetine? last evening on the sublcct of the Fourth t f July celebration, and made progres towards completing the arrangements therefor. MATTERS OVER THE RIVER. Grapes and Their Cultivation. Tho cultivation of grapes in many iuirn of Wen Jersey has become a great branch of business, and has proved to be 'quite prontnblo. This fact has become very apparent, so much so, indeed, that the enterprise is being indulged in to au additional extent. Recently a party of Hun parians have bei-n experimenting scientifically on the soil if South .'pisey, and have found it to he ol supeiior quality for that blanch of hor ticulture, and, consequently, they secured a largo tract of land near Egg Harbor City, which they design to appropriate to the raising ot grapes, and of converting it into a complete vineyard. They intend commencing operations soon, piobably next fall. It they buccpcI, as they hove manifested a conviction that they villi, it is asserted that othuisv.ni follo.vtheui in the planting of vineyards, nnd thus make ot South New Jersey one line garden tor the grow ing of excpllentgrapes.
