Mars Aboni ih trial p( lldvia,
The indictment preeutfd by the Grand Jury
of the District Court oi Vireinia against JeiH
Davis lor treason, was received at the office of
the Attorney-General, ou Saturday, bcin de
livered by Jttdg Cnderwood in person. It was
decided not to give it to tue public at present.
The indictment contains no fjaturo of special
interest, being much the same in form with the
pievious indictment made at Norfolk. Judge
underwood has been in consultation with the
Assistant Attorney-General relative to Mr.
Davis' trial at Richmond in June. Every pre
paration is being made for the event at that
time.
It is ucderstood that Cbief Justice Chase will
preside, and Attorney-General Speed will prose
cute, assisted by Judge Clifford, of Massacnu
setts, and William M. Evarts, Esq., of New
York, as counsel on the part of the prosecution.
The. Court will convene in the early part of
June. A gentlemau who has read tbe evidence
against Mr. Davis for complicity In the assassi
nation plot, states that it does not contain a
fact that would have been thought sufficient by
thf President, or any other lair-minded mau. to
order the trial sought.
