lately an aocuunt taken from one of the Loaisville
papers (the Democrat, 1 dunk), of ono sterling
KiuKi who pretends to bo the man who silled Abra
ham Llnouln It h but right that every one shou'd
know who this man KtD is, and Judge him accord
ingly. Ho was en ployed by tb United States
Ciovernment as a dotective, or speoial agent, as they
style themsolves, in 1861. He was the man who
carolled the creator poition of Moigan's mon who
were sent to Camp Douglas, ani in searching thun,
relieved them of any superfluous va uablos they
chanced to have retained until then, and appro
priated them to himself. Manv of the Camp Douglas
jirisoners mav remember the long-logged, sandy
halted devil who was so untiring in taunting thorn as
they entered their Northern prii-on. lie bad ono or
two teeth out in (rent In 18G3-G4 ho operatod in and
around Cincinnati. Mam 1 homaK, the tailor, Catncart,
the schoolmaster, and Mrs.l'armenier, the waxherwo
man, thoso terrible conspirators who were to have
etleoted the escape ot General John H. Morgan and
all the prisoners then contined in Camp Chase, all

as a PU-bol or Confederate spy. Not bom able to
find out arything bout the escape of General Mor-
Ean in Cincinnati, be thought to "board the lion in
is den" the Morgan in his camp and wont to
the General's bcauquarters in Western Virginia

Kentucky ltibo. a, trying to gain the General's con
fidence; but he was not very suocessinl, tor ho was
recognized by sonio ot his former victims of Camp
Douglass. He was arrested and tried a- a spy b? a
couii-niartial and sentenced to death. What be
came ot him aiter that 1 do nor know. .Perhaps
some of General Morgan's stafT ofllcors could tell.
What his object is in saying that lis Is the slaver
ot Lincoln, 1 cannot tell, unless it be to make
some further statements to enrage the Northern
people against Mr. Davis. Of course his confes
sion criminates himselt, but then nothing would
be easier for his frionds, whom 1 doubt not are high
In power, than to eifect his oscapo and give him a
nice round sum wherewith to live the rest ol his
days in some toreign land. All that ho is under
taking bodes no good to some one. ile was ar
rested in Kentucky lor horse-teaiintf, and gives as
his reason for inakliijr bis confession, that there are
parties in Washington who knew ol the part he had
taken in Iho assassination, and that on seem? his
same in the papers, he would be immediately Bent
lor trom there. Now, if that were the ctso, ha cor
tainly would not have giveH in Ins right namo when
taken to Louisville, aud then those parties iu Wash
ington would never have known anything of so
important a personage. Next, had be intended to

tempted, ho could have done it very easily Ko! he
merely wished to give an appearanoe of truthful
ness to bis statement. Aud now, the last and best
reason that I have tor knowing that it is all lalse, is,
that I happen to know every ono connected witu
the killing of ilr Lincoln was there ac the time,
within ten foot of tho private box, and know that
neither Sterling King nor Jeflt-r.-on Davis had any
thing to do with, nor knew of it until after tho dood.

publish this, aud let o ho rs do the same. Its publi
cation can certainly do no one any harm. There are
three persons in tho State ot Louisiana who cou d,
if they chose, testify to the truth ot all 1 say here.

Why Letters Fail ot their Destination.
The Albany Journal of Thursday has an inter
est ine; article upon tbe eubjeet ot "missing let
ters," which we subjoin. It should be premised
that the editor speaks from knowledge derived
from his official position in the Post Office of
that city: "Whenever letters are missed, the
fault 19 charged upon the Post Office. But in
nine cases out of ten, it lies with the parties
sendiuer the letters. Take a few examples:
"A short time since a Government offloor in this
city v as noticed that two letters had been sent to
him, one containing a check tor eighty thousand
dollars, and tho other lor thirty thousand dollars.
He was, of course, iu great tnbula ion, aud sup
posed ti e delinquency to be in the post ofiicc. Hut
the letters had been diicctcd to the city of New
lork, instead ot Aioany, ana weie discovered in the
advertised list, and secured, an right.
"A day or two since a gentleman in Syracuse noti-
ncd Mr. Kocssie, ot the Ueievun House, that lie bad
iorwaroed bim $8500 to taku up a note JJUt no
such letter cun e to baud. Search was instituted and
inquiries made, but the letter could not be louud. It
was lii.ally discovered in tbe otiieo at Syracuse, held
for postage.
"One ol our citizens put a thousand dollar draft
in a letter directed to Buffalo, a luwilais ot'O. It
did not roach its destination, and the pot otlice was
ouiy anaincmaiizeu; wnen, io: tue letter turned up
among tnose neia lor postage.
"A twenty thousand dollar check was, the writer
supposed, tent to Illinois, but It did not reach its
destination. Iu due tiino it was returned to nim
from the dead-letter oflice. li bad been direoied to
Michigan instead ot Illinois.
"Three members of a family in this city own stock
in a U emern brink. One of them received tue regu
lar dividend, but the others did not. Aitor a wbilo

directed to New York instead of Albany.
"Instances like these are occurring every day.

whore tho writers are known (by having their card
npon tbe envelope), these are seat to tbe dead-letter
office.
"It should be known that a revenue stamp is not
recognized on a letter; aud a gp-at many letters are
deposited with such stamps upon them, ibesd are
all sent to the dead-letter office."
The Queen's Eastkr Bounty. These aneient
nnd royHl charities were distributed this year in
Wbitt'hull Chapel, London, with the customary
formalities, to lorty-seven aged men and forty
seven aced women, the number of each sex cor
responoiupr with, tbe age of the Queen.
